Statement from the Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough Distirct regarding St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Mayor of Clonmel Borough District, Cllr Martin Lonergan, will host an Open Public meeting to prepare and plan for the 2015 St Patrick’s Day Parade on Monday, January 19th at 8pm in the Town Hall building.  The Mayor wishes to extend an open invitation to all interested groups and individuals who wish to become part of the planning and co-ordination of this year’s Parade.

 

Cllr Lonergan has said he is fully supportive of the long-standing tradition of a Parade on St Patrick’s Day in Clonmel.  “As the significant county Town, within the new Clonmel Borough District and the wider County, I can assure you of my fullest support and commitment that the Local Authority will once again be committed to delivering on this highlight event in partnership with the broader community in the Borough District”.

 

Acknowledging the role of Cuman Tobar Naomh Padraig Committee for their support in the organisation of previous years Parades, Cllr Lonergan has expressed his regret that this Committee has formally announced that it will be withdrawing from their role in the overall organisation of the forthcoming Parade. “I sincerely want to thank Cuman Tobar Naomh Padraig Committee for their dedicated and unwavering commitment to organising the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Clonmel for many years and look forward to a supporting role that they can play moving forward.”

 

To assist the Local Authority with the 2015 effort, the Mayor is welcoming all civic, business and community groups to participate in the co-ordination of this year’s event.  “Tipperary County Council will continue to provide levels of support and resources similar to previous years, are committed to continuing to work as a genuine partner in the process with the communities and I warmly invite all interested groups and local residents to the meeting to develop a community-based partnership for the 2015 Parade.  The Open Public Meeting on Monday January 19th is the ideal opportunity for interested parties to become part of this process.”
