Major Irish writers to visit University of Limerick

A special event will take place at the University of Limerick on Thursday November 13th as part of Limerick City of Culture and Millstream Writers Series. The Frank McCourt Chair of Creative Writing Professor Joseph O’ Connor will read alongside acclaimed writers Christine Dwyer Hickey and Colin Barrett.

Joseph O’ Connor’s new novel The Thrill of It All has recently been shortlisted for the Novel of the Year at the forthcoming Irish Book Awards. The novel has also been chosen as this year’s ‘One Campus, One Book’, an initiative led by UL’s Regional Writing Centre.

Caroline Graham of the Limerick City of Culture Visiting Writing Series commented:

‘We are delighted to bring writers of this calibre to Limerick audiences. Both Joseph O’ Connor and Christine Dwyer Hickey have been recently nominated for the Laureate in Irish Fiction, while Colin Barrett has this year won both the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award and the Rooney Prize for Fiction. We have worked with the Millstream Writers Series, English Section at the University and ‘One Campus, One Book’ to put together this very special evening’.

The event will commence in the Millstream Common Room UL at 5.30pm on Thursday November 13th. This is a free event and all are welcome to what promises to be a memorable occasion.
