Baker Joe Fitzmaurice and his wife Julie Lockett of Riot Rye Bakehouse & Bread School, (formerly Cloughjordan Wood-fired Bakery), are delighted to announce that their sourdough breads scooped top awards at the Blas na hÉireann Food Awards in Dingle/An Daingean at the weekend.

Riot Rye Bakehouse & Bread School, located in the eco-village, Cloughjordan, specialises in a range of Sourdough, Long fermentation, Spelt, Rye and Wheat-free products.  Their White Sourdough Boule was awarded Gold and their Sourdough Walnut, Silver in the Sourdough Breads Section.

unnamed (4)Riot Rye Bakehouse bread is available from Nadur Health Shop in Nenagh, Austin’s Centra in Cloughjordan and through Bia Box, Limerick Grocery Store and the Milk Market in Limerick.  Their Bread School is currently taking bookings for Sourdough Bread and Introduction to Baking courses.  These hands-on, one day courses will teach you how to bake their highly nutritious, award-winning breads at home.

The National Irish Food Awards celebrate and reward the very best tasting Irish food and drink products, and the passionate, driven producers who make it.  All Irish companies, North and South, are invited to submit products, it is the biggest blind tasting of produce in the country.  The Awards were created by a group of Irish producers so that quality benchmarks could be established for Irish produce on a level playing field.

Joe Fitzmaurice first started entering his breads for competitions and winning awards with Blazing Salads Food Company, Dublin in 2008.   His breads have won more awards at Blas na hÉireann Food Awards than any other bakery in Ireland.  He is delighted that his breads are continuing to be recognised nationally and internationally for their excellent quality.
