Divisional Senior Hurling Championship Semi –Finals

It was a very busy weekend last weekend with all the four Divisions holding their semi-finals.In the Mid both semi-finals were played in Templemore last Sunday afternoon in front of a fine attendance. County champions Loughmore – Castleiney faced Upperchurch –Drombane in the first game and it took extra-time to decide a winner and in the end Upperchurch came out on top by 2-19 to 1-21 for Loughmore. In the second game Mid champions Drom & Inch had a big win over Thurles Sarsfields winning the game by 3-19 to 1-15 for Thurles Sarsfields.

In the North semi-finals both games went to the wire with Burgess defeating  Kilruane MacDonaghs  by 1-16 to 0-17 and in the second game  last year’s beaten county finalists Nenagh Eire Og overcame the challenge of Borrisoleigh by 2-13 to 1-14.

In the South champions Killenaule defeated Ballingary by 3-14 to 0-16 and in the second semi-final Mullinahone beat Carrick Swans by 2-9 to 0-8 . Finally in the West semi –finals Eire Og Annacarthy had a big win over Cappawhite defeating them by 4-14 to 1-11 and in the second semi-final Clonoulty Rosemore beat Knockavilla Kickhams by   2-18 to 1-8. So the stage is set for the Divisional finals which will take place after the All Ireland.

Tipperary Senior Hurlers

As the Tipperary senior team continue their preparations for the All Ireland final clash with Kilkenny supporters are advised that the final training session before the final will take place on Thursday evening September 4th at the usual time and is open to all supporters to come along. All other training sessions will not be open to the public. Again the county senior management team , players and the County Board would like to thank supporters for their understanding and support and we look forward to seeing a big attendance at the final training session. So please come along and give a big send-off to the team.

GAA.ie Player of the Week Award

Congratulations to Paudie Maher who won the GAA.ie Player of the Week Award for his tremendous performance against Cork in the All Ireland hurling semi –final. Seamus Callanan and James Woodlock came second and third respectively. Well done to all three players on being selected for their performances again Cork.

All-Ireland Post Match Banquet

The Tipperary Association Dublin has announced details of the traditional Post Match Banquet on the occasion of the 2014 Al-Ireland Senior Hurling Final. This follows the tremendous victory over the Rebels in the All Ireland Hurling Semi-final. The banquet, which has the support of the County Board and the Tipperary Supporters Club, will be held in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel (formerly the Burlington Hotel), Burlington Road, Dublin 4 on Sunday 7th Sept and continues a tradition lasting over 50 years, where Tipperary teams appearing in finals in Croke Park are hosted by the Tipperary Association Dublin. The dinner will begin at 8.00pm and will be followed by music and dancing. Tickets are priced at €60 each. Tables for 10 – 12 persons may be purchased, but individual tickets are also available. Because of the interest and excitement in the county it is expected that the event will be oversubscribed and early booking is advised. Tickets must be paid for in advance and the latest date for accepting bookings is Tuesday 2nd. September. There will also be an opportunity to join the function later in the evening – entry €20. Munster Grants

Clubs who are considering applying for a Munster Grant should commence preparations now as the closing date for applications to be with Tipperary Co Board is Wednesday  September 17th. Applications forms and instructions can be downloaded from the Munster GAA web-site. If your club is applying you should immediately notify Co Development Officer, Jimmy Minogue at 086-3704584 and he will advise and assist you.

Brendan Cummins wins 8th Poc Fada title

Congratulations to Brendan Cummins who captured an unprecedented eighth Poc Fada All Ireland  title at the rearranged 2014 M. Donnelly GAA All Ireland Poc Fada Finals last Sunday. It was always expected that the senior mens’ event would be a ‘puck-off’ between All-Ireland winners Brendan Cummins, Clare goalkeeper Patrick Kelly and Laois’ Eoin Reilly and it was almost that. Cummins hit top form once again with 52 pucks and 63 metres, while Derry’s Ruairi Convery came second with 57 pucks, 75 metres. Reilly took third place with 57 pucks, 30 metres. Conditions were absolutely perfect for this unique GAA sporting and cultural contest.

Camogie

Congratulations to the county U16 A camogie team who defeated Galway in the All Ireland Camogie Final last Sunday in the Gaelic grounds after a wonderful  fluid display  that left Galway as the bridesmaids for the third season in a row. Tipperary fell behind early on as they took a little while to settle but with Sinead Meagher scoring a hat-trick of goals and Grace O’Brien slotting nine points, they cruised to a 3-13 to 1-7 success.

 

Ladies Gaelic Football

After a comprehensive victory over Monaghan in the Semi Final on August 17th last Tipperary will now compete against Laois in the U16 All Ireland Final in MacDonagh Park in Nenagh on Sunday August 31st at 3.30pm. Tipperary U16’s commenced their Munster Championship in April last with victories over Limerick (6th April) and Clare (16th April). The Munster Championship Final against Limerick was played on April 26th and Tipperary were outright winners on the day, Tipperary 8-18 Limerick 0-4.

Siobhan Condon, Manager and her management team; Pat Morrissey, Paddy McMeel, Mary O’Shea and Georgina O’Dwyer had almost four months of a break before the Semi Final which they used for a break in training before Semi Final preparations. Tipperary last competed in the U16 All Ireland Final in 2011 when they were defeated by Longford. Best wishes to the team and their management. All support is welcome.

Celebrity All-Ireland Final Preview Charity Night

There will be a celebrity preview charity night in Young’s The Ragg on Friday night August 29th at 8.30 pm in aid of Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre & Pieta House.
