Tipperary commemorates the Great War WW1 22nd – 25th July 2014 at The Tipperary Excel
Tipperary Excel Arts Centre has a most interesting programme of events entitled “ Tipperary Remembers 1914 – 2014 planned to commemorate The Great War commencing Tuesday 22nd July 2014. Its includes a series of exhibitions, cinema, memorabilia displays and talks to commemorate WWI
- Daily – An Exhibition of memorabilia about World War 1 and Tipperary Military Barracks is on display in the Foyer of Tipperary Excel Arts Centre
- Daily – The Role of Irish Women in Irish History 1900-1920 will be hosted in the Tipperary Excel Gallery. This exhibition will feature the work of Aislinn O’Keeffe and photographic material from the local community.
- Daily – An installation from Cappawhite Youthreach group gives reflects the view of young people on the futility of War.
- Tuesday July 22nd Film: Private Peaceful, Matinee 3pm Admission – €5.00 Matinee 3
- Tuesday July 22nd Film: All is quiet on the Western Front, Time 8pm Admission – €5.00
- Wednesday July 23rd: Lecture by Dr. Des Marnane “Tipperary Military Barracks & World War 1” 7.30pm FREE ADMISSION
- Thursday 24th & Friday 25th July: Musical Hall Variety Concert “ Tipperary Remembers 1914 -2014” at the Simon Ryan Theatre, Tipperary Excel *
*These music hall variety concerts will take a nostalgic stroll down memory lane of Tipperary during WW1 through the medium of song, dance and humour. Tickets €15 / Balcony €12 / Concessions of parties of six €10.Come in period costume and enjoy a memorable evening. There is also a prize for the most appropriate audience costume.
Commenting on the WW1 Commemoration the Tipperary Excel Chairman Kerry Ryan said “The board is delighted to have been successful in obtaining financial support from the IPB Youth & Community Fund for this initiative. This grant has enabled Tipperary Excel Arts Centre to host an exciting and truly unique programme of events for the First World War, 100 year commemorations in the county” This prestigious production includes an exclusive WW1 photography and memorabilia exhibition directly relating to Tipperary People who served and contributed to the war effort from 1914 -1918.
