Limerick National City of Culture 2014 events for July, August and September

We’re into the second half of Limerick’s year as National City of Culture already and the rest of the year is looking even busier than the first six months!

Highlights include:
Wake by Chamber Made Opera July 15th – 20th performed in the living room of a private home

Wake is a journey into the heart of the storm. Performed in the living room of a private home in Limerick, Wake will rattle souls and dinner plates alike. It is opera like you have never experienced before – visceral, intimate and bold. Conceived by director Maeve Stone (IRE) and composer John Rodgers (AUS) with Tom Lane (IRE) and Chamber Made Opera (AUS).

The Táin July 20th – 25th hip hop theatre in the Milk Market
Ireland’s first Hip Hop Theatre Production – The city is the state, two tribes collide, a hero emerges.
The epic Irish tale of Cúchulainn and Queen Maeve is launched into today’s simmering underworld of urban turf wars. Fired by passion and pride, Cúchulainn seeks to defend his territory at all costs. In this explosive re-imagining of the ancient story, there are scores to be settled, sacrifices to be made and the ultimate prize to be claimed. 
Proms in the Park July 24th, feat. Bands of the 1st Brigade in Limerick People’s Park

Fun-filled family event in People’s Park featuring The Bands of the 1st Brigade. One of the key attractions will be the official film scores from some of the world’s most loved films. FREE ticketed event.

The River August 13th – September 1st, boat on the River Shannon
Multisensory theatrical experience based on the stories and memories of real people about the River Shannon as it flows through Limerick.
Limerick Pride August 24th – 31st
Weeklong celebration of LGBT culture.
The Giant’s Journey – Royal de Luxe takes to the streets of Limerick September 5th – 7th
The world renowned Royal de Luxe will unleash the Giant Saga on the unsuspecting Irish public – an original tale, developed and specially scripted for the city of Limerick. Limerick will be transformed as the massive Giant rambles through the streets, transfixing audiences for 72 hours of FREE entertainment. Young and old will rub shoulders as they follow the Giant’s progress on its epic three day journey.
Elemental Arts & Culture Festival September 12th – 14th

Theatre, street performers, visual art, forgotten skills, reading and workshops, plus lots more.


Sound Out – The Pigtown Fling, September 20th at Crescent Hall
Music legacy showcase co-directed by Noel Hogan (Cranberries). Collaboration of music artists living in Limerick City presented by high profile guest TBA. FREE ticketed event.
