Free Wizard of Oz film Showing in Cloughjordan along with a treasure hunt!

One of the most-loved and iconic Hollywood musicals is coming to Cloughjordan in July, along with a treasure hunt with great prizes! And it’s all free.

Cloughjordan Cineclub and Sheelagh na Gig bookshop are presenting The Wizard of Oz on Saturday, 5 July at 7pm in the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre, Cloughjordan. Tickets for this event are free but must be collected in advance from Sheelagh na Gig bookshop. Tickets will be available from Wednesday, 2 July. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

You can also join in with the Find the Cowardly Lion search from 2-5 July. The Cowardly Lion is hiding in Cloughjordan businesses, and you have to find him in each one. When you find all the places where the Cowardly Lion is hiding, you can enter a draw for National Book Tokens and Wizard of Oz prizes!

To participate in the draw, collect an ‘I found the Cowardly Lion’ card when you find the Cowardly Lion in these businesses: Austin’s Centra, C & S Williams Traditional Meats and Hardware, Cloughjordan Pharmacy, Cloughjordan post office, Gourmet Gallery restaurant, Murphy’s shop, Rohan’s shop, Sheelagh na Gig bookshop, The Makery art and craft centre and Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre. Collect all the cards and hand them in at Sheelagh na Gig bookshop to get Wizard of Oz activity sheets and to enter the grand prize draw, which will be held after the showing of the Wizard of Oz film on 5 July. The grand prize is a National Book Token worth €20 and a complete set of the 14 Oz books by L Frank Baum, creator of Dorothy and the world of Oz, and there will be other prizes too.

The Wizard of Oz began life as a children’s novel by US writer L Frank Baum and was first published in 1900. The success of the original book and the musical based on it, which was produced in 1902, led Baum to write another 13 Oz books. Since his death, numerous other Oz books, musicals and films have been produced, the most famous of which is the film The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland.
