My Brother Peter – A romantic score for Valentines night at The Source Thurles
Much has been written about Tchaikovsky’s relationships, his sexuality, failed marriage, familial ties, disputes and their impact on his musical career. Tchaikovsky was a man of intrigue. A unique night is promised as one of Ireland’s biggest stars of stage and screen Bosco Hogan takes on the role of the composer’s brother Modest.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra joins forces with award-winning theatre director Patrick Mason to present an original piece of theatre My Brother Peter, with live orchestra based on the life and works of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This original production, written by Mason, provides a rare snapshot of the composer as seen through the eyes of his brother, Modest and offers some understanding of the complexities of man who wrote some of the best-loved music ever written.
One of the finest actors of his generation, Bosco Hogan‘s range has stretched from roles in the repertoire of classic writers such as Shakespeare, Chekhov and Wilde, to the innovative contemporary work of Frank McGuinness and Jennifer Johnston. In film, he has appeared in The Tudors, The Borgias, The Tale of Sweeney Todd, King Arthur, Some Mother’s Son and much more. Hogan, as Modest Tchaikovsky, brings a dedication and integrity matched with an innate and profound understanding of character. As well as founding the Tchaikovsky House-Museum, Kiln, Modest’s lasting legacy is his brother’s biography. “Now, when I hear his music, I hear only his courage, his honesty – his essential humanity. And all is well again between us”. (My Brother Peter).
The Irish Chamber Orchestra embellish this one-man show, with music that portrays Tchaikovsky at his brilliant best, including his evocative Souvenir de Florence and magnificent Serenade for Strings.
