Me, Mollser at The Source Thurles

The Abbey Theatre present

Me, Mollser

by Ali White

Me Mollser, is a specially commissioned monologue that introduces classic Irish theatre to a younger audience, based on the character of Mollser who appears in The Plough and the Stars by Sean O’Casey. She is a strong willed, passionate and endearing young Dubliner coping with consumption during the 1913 Lock-Out and the Easter rising.

Curious and enthusiastic, Mollser guides you through the overcrowded Dublin tenement where she lives. Her keen eye offers a view of daily life in turn of the century Dublin. But today is not a normal day. She must discover how she got transported to this strange hall. Mollser is a proud Dubliner, struggling to thrive in the overcrowded tenements but having lost none of her curiosity and idealism. She sees the adults in her world with a sharp eye and even has a sense of the ghosts who continue to haunt the building. Be part of the story and help her find her way back home.

Me, Mollser is not only a compelling, funny and poignant monologue, it is an educational piece as well and is performed with great skill by an experienced actor Mary-Lou McCarthy who has also worked with a wide range of school groups. This is a unique opportunity to see a specially commissioned piece for The Abbey Theatre now on stage at your local arts centre.
