Hugh Tinney & Catherine Leonard – exclusive recital at The Source Arts Centre Thurles

The distinguished Irish musicians Catherine Leonard (violin) and Hugh Tinney (piano) will give just four recitals around the country in October. They return to The Source Arts Centre on Friday 18th October with a classical and romantic programme which includes works by Beethoven, Brahms and Fauré.

Both Hugh and Catherine are well known as soloists in Ireland and abroad. The duo has been working together since 2001 and has performed in Irish concert series and festivals as well as in the United States.  They are Artistic Directors of the new Westport Festival of Chamber Music.  They have recorded works by Beethoven on the RTÉ Lyric FM label, about which the Journal of Music wrote;

“Especially striking about the performances on this highly attractive disc is the intimacy, quiet authority, meticulous attention to detail and carefully measured charm that Leonard and Tinney bring to bear throughout”.

Alongside two of the early Beethoven sonatas, they will play Fauré’s youthful and effusive Sonata Op. 13 and Brahms’ most introverted and moving sonata, the G major Op. 78.   The duo has a special affinity with Beethoven’s works for violin and piano, this promises to be a truly breath-taking show and one to mark in your diary. Hugh Tinney will play on a Steinway piano, Catheirne Leonard plays a 1672 Francesco Ruggeri violin. Reviews of previous recitals include;

“The music just flowed from their fingers like a force of nature, as it if couldn’t have been shaped or projected in any superior way.”  Michael Dervan, The Irish Times

“Virtuosity sparkling”   The Sunday Tribune

Please note: Internationally acclaimed soprano Virginia Kerr will share the stage with Thurles Cathedral Choir on 21 December for Sing and Be Merry – Sparkling Seasonal Songs. This show also has an all-inclusive meal and ticket price. Bookings open now.
