Kilkenny based artist Elizabeth Cope has exhibited in galleries worldwide over the past 20 years and her work is found in many important public and private collections. A graduate of National College of Art & Design, Elizabeth went on to study at Chelsea School of Art and Sir John Cass School of Art in London. She has taken part in art residencies all over the world. Elizabeth is a recipient of many awards, not least Imagine Ireland’s sponsorship of her solo show in National Arts Club of America, New York in 2011. Elizabeth has just returned from showing her work in Italy. Elizabeth says of art: ‘I like art that irritates, not in the sense of annoyance, but like the grain of sand that upsets the oyster to make the pearl. If it does that it has begun a process drawing me visually into an emotional arena, translated into an emotional response. There must be a connection between me and the viewer.’

As part of The Source Arts Centre’s outreach programme, Elizabeth Cope will give a free public talk in The Source Gallery on Thursday 19 September at 7pm, all are welcome to attend.
