Elizabeth Cope and Zita Reihill at The Source Gallery, Thurles

A very special collection of works by painters Zita Reihill and Elizabeth Cope will be shown in The Source Arts Centre Gallery from Thursday 12 September until Thursday 31 October. The exhibition will feature contrasting styles and will appeal to a general audience, artists, and students of art alike. Subject matter includes landscapes, portraits and still life.

Dublin based artist Zita Reihill graduated from Dun Laoire College of Art And Design. She has exhibited regularly in Dublin for the past 18 years as well as showing in London, New York, Venice and Melbourne. Her work can be found in many private collections worldwide. Of her recent works Zita says: ‘These paintings are an attempt to express a hidden world of inner stories, understories, wishes, desires, lies, nightmares, the world beneath the world, the true story beneath the false.’

Kilkenny based artist Elizabeth Cope has exhibited in galleries worldwide over the past 20 years and her work is found in many important public and private collections. A graduate of National College of Art & Design, Elizabeth went on to study at Chelsea School of Art and Sir John Cass School of Art in London. She has taken part in art residencies all over the world. Elizabeth is a recipient of many awards, not least Imagine Ireland’s sponsorship of her solo show in National Arts Club of America, New York in 2011. Elizabeth has just returned from showing her work in Italy. Elizabeth says of art: ‘I like art that irritates, not in the sense of annoyance, but like the grain of sand that upsets the oyster to make the pearl. If it does that it has begun a process drawing me visually into an emotional arena, translated into an emotional response. There must be a connection between me and the viewer.’

The exhibition will be officially opened by Therry Rudin; artist, lecturer in Fine Art at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology and Co-Director of Damer House Gallery in Roscrea.

As part of The Source Arts Centre’s outreach programme, Elizabeth Cope will give a free public talk in The Source Gallery on Thursday 19 September at 7pm, all are welcome to attend. Also, Zita Reihill will talk to invited secondary school art students on October 23rd.
