Tipperary Boy Joins Temple Street Children’s University Hospital Celebrations

At a special event in Croke Park last Saturday, 250 children and their families gathered to mark 10 years of kidney transplantation at Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. Pictured enjoying the celebrations are Andrew Duncan accompanied by his family from Co. Tipperary. Andrew, aged 15, is one of 80 recipients to have received a transplant at Temple Street since 2003. Of the children to receive a transplant, 22 were from a living donor (a parent or close relative) and 58 from a deceased donor (when the kidney is retrieved from someone who has died but who carried a donor card.) Over the ten years, the youngest recipient of a new kidney was two years of age and the oldest was 17 years.
