Captivating Arts Trail programme announced for the 6th Clancy Brothers Music and Arts Festival

The renowned Art Exhibition Trail slice of the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival which will take place in Carrick-on-Suir over the June Bank holiday weekend, May 29 – June 3rd has scores of novel projects lined up that is sure to electrify your creative side…..

Historic Landmarks, Community Centres, Theatres and empty retails spaces throughout the town will once again be transformed into pop-up art galleries over the weekend showcasing a diverse blend of artwork from over 100 artists, photographers and students from all corners of the South East. The Streets, parks, green spaces, open spaces of Carrick on Suir will be brought  to life decorated in an array of amazing vibrant shades. Fascinating random multicoloured objects will pop up in different forms where you will least expect and will leave you in awe…

“Local artists have once again united to bring many new creative initiatives to the 2013 Art Trail” says Coordinator Linda Fahy and “this year is going to be the most exciting yet”. Artist Susan Sayers has initiated an intriguing street art project that will connect the whole community as she plans to “yarn bomb” trees, lamp posts and street furniture in public spaces with the help of local knitters both young & old “If you can knit a patch you can yarn bomb a tree” Susan says….  Caolan Deehy Power is steering a stimulating street art project propelling us into the future with local youth using spray paints and kitchen appliances in an effort to capture “Carrick in the year 2040″ in a most unusual way! Tramore artist Joe Fogarty using wire as a medium is creating an Alice in Wonderland sculpture whereby children can have their photograph taken with their favourite mad hatters tea party characters…”this is a project that we can add to annually” Joe says and he plans to donate the wire sculpture to the Carrick on Suir Community. Artists Renee Ni Gig and Sheila Wood have both been commissioned to create murals for the Brewery Lane Theatre Group some of which will be unveiled over the weekend and others in process….

Exciting workshops for all age groups are also planned over the weekend which include a pinhole camera workshop presented by Susan Sayers which will take place in Brewery Lane Theatre. Martin Fahey founder of “Southpaw” a writer’s centre and fine art printing studio, new venture for Waterford City & County is presenting two of his workshops in Carrick on Suir “Unwind & Bind” book making workshops for adults and “The Children’s Print” workshop, both workshops will be hosted in the Clancy House Community Business Centre.

The Art Trail committee is also thrilled to announce the first “open call” welcoming all new and emerging artists who have never previously exhibited to submit a piece of artwork and be part of a unique fun exhibition in one of the pop-up art galleries.  The Open Call initiated by local artist Paul Ryan offers the chance to have your work displayed and offered for sale as part of the weekend festivities with prizes available for the most popular entries. Submissions will be accepted in all mediums. Maximum size for work is 20 by 16 inches size. All Entries must include title and a price. Entries are limited to one per person and fee to enter €2 each.

Students from local schools and Foroige Neighbourhood Youth Project will once again unite to celebrate their creative talents at the Friary Gallery and Community Arts Centre – be prepared to be dazzled by the transformation of this venue into a dynamic art space by Carrick on Suir’s young budding artists! Back by popular demand will be the treasure hunt trail for children coordinated by Aideen Meany.

Your Art Trail experience can culminate at the beautiful setting of the Ormond Castle – here you can discover the exclusive “Comings and Goings” art exhibition; where each participating artist displays a work of art drawing from their own sentiment as it relates to Ireland’s emigration and the gathering…quite the hot topic at the moment! Don’t forget to pickup up a card at one of the venues and get it stamped at each art venue you visit along the trail. Collect at least 6 stamps including one from one of the pop up shops and be in with a chance to win a voucher worth €100 which can be spent on any of the art exhibited during the festival weekend.

“The festival is also running a very exciting competition in the lead up to the festival. Look out for helium balloons in local shops in the run up to the festival. The prizes include tickets to festival events and the big one this week which is a €200 airline voucher for you to bring someone home for the festival in conjunction with The Gathering 2013.
