The Kelly Clan are holding their next Gathering at Dundrum House Hotel, Tipperary

The Kelly Clan are holding their next Gathering at Dundrum House Hotel, Dundrum, Tipperary on 17-19 May 2013.

It is twenty one years since the first Kelly Gathering was held in the very same venue and it is shaping up to be a bumper event with Kellys arriving from around the world –  with one member travelling all the way from Guatemala!

The weekend promises to be an exciting and interesting time with opportunities for those looking to trace their roots hearing the latest analysis of the Kelly Y-DNA Study which will be presented by Aidan Kelly, the Clan’s Chief Recorder on genetic genealogy. Indeed work is being carried out on behalf of a Tipperary family using information from the DNA programme at the moment. Of course, oral history will also play a big part in the weekend and many Kellys have discovered relatives over the years merely with a cosy chat!  During the weekend there will be a comprehensive tour of the Moyglass townland, which is where Ned Kelly’s father, John “Red” Kelly originated before his transportation. The tour will include a costumed re-enactment carried out by one of the local historical groups.  The programme for the Saturday evening will include a gala dinner with a chance to enjoy local traditional entertainment.

Mary Kelly, one of the organisers and a spokesperson for the Association, says that.  “The Kelly Clan Gathering offers a great opportunity for people who have a genetic, historic and cultural link to meet fellow Kelly’s and discuss possible relationships with the added benefit of learning about their ancestors through the DNA process.”
