Cashel Arts Festival 2012
This year sees the Cashel Arts Festival celebrating its 10th year and in doing so the 10 day festival is
jam packed with something for everyone.
To kick off this years events we invite you all down to a fire show with stilt walkers on the 9th
November at 6.30 on the Plaza ,Cashel .We are very honored to have John Crosse open this years
festival, as one of the founding members . The revealing of the Banners around the town that
have been created through a community based project, ,the Bio-diversity photograghy exhibit in
Cantwells Pub,and Alan Clarke’s illustrations in the Library will also be opened on the night.
A little treat for the light opera lover as part of this years festival will take place earlier on the 9th
November in The Bru Boru from 12.30 to 3pm.Local Secondary schools will proform excerpts from
their school musicals,this event is free.
During this years Festival we are very excited to have a varied line up of musical events with
the annual solo singing competition on Saturday 10th November ,open to the following age
groups ,under 11,under 13,under 15 under 17,and over 18,please check out the web site or Heritage
centre for more details ,entries in before Friday 9th November.
Debuting at this years Festival and fresh from Electric picnic is up and coming Dublin singer song
writer Garr Cleary. Garr is unsual in that he plays his right handed guitar strung upside down. Come
along to this free event in the Brian Boru on Saturday the 10th at 9pm.
A musical treat is in store whlie you browse the food and craft stalls on Sunday 11 th November,from
11am outside the Cashel Palce Hotel .The Cashel Brass Band,the beauiful ‘Vocalize’ singers ,Tradional
music and local bands. Free Children’s entertainment with Jelly Bean Julie, Dara the Magician, An
Irish Dancing Display from Anne Whelan’s Irish Dancing School and much more ,you might even
enjoy a Tour of Cashel on horse drawn carriage on the day.
A first for the Festival is the forming of A Festival Choir it will be made up of enthusiastic singers,
so we call on all singers of any range ability from teen to adult to join in and be part of this great
opportunity. Six workshops will be lead by Martin Barrett, a widely experienced conductor, producer
and music educator ,culminating in a spectacular concert ‘Voices’ in St John the Baptist Church ,John
Street, Cashel on 18th November at 3pm.
The Songbirds’ are in the library on Tuesday the 13th November at 8pm,an evening of musical
delight with two very popular and highly entertaining sopranos is in store. Tickets can be obtained

Gothic comedy ,horror song and tales are the main attraction for the Dinner Theatre featuring the
storys of Edgar Allan Poe in Cafe terrasse on Friday the 16th November.This is an unmissible event.
Tickets are available from the Heritage centre and Cafe Teressa Restaurant ,Cashel Shopping Centre
at 25euro which includes a very scrumptious 3 course meal, and group discounts available.
For all you rap enthusiasts,we are delighted that Dave Lordan will host workshops in the library on
Saturday17th November from 2-4pm and 4.30-5.30pm,booking only through the library.
Dance plays an important part of this years Festival. Hip hop features in a workshop for teenagers
in Halla na Feile on Sunday the 11th November at 4.30pm,places can be booked through the

And a first for Cashel comes in the line of ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ from Ballet Ireland,in the Bru Boru
on Saturday 17th November tickets are available for this premiere event at the heritage centre or
on line at www.cashelartsfest.com. family tickets at 40euro (2 adults ,2children)or single tickets at
15euro.
Ballet workshops from 3 to 8year olds will be held on Saturday the 17th November in Spafield Family

Shane Dempsey of ‘Stagecraft’ and ‘fragments’ will run a play in a day workshop, where participants
over 2 days (10am-8pm Saturday and Sunday the 17and 18th November)will write ,produce and
perform a play. A special treat for anyone interested in all or any aspect of drama and /or stage

For the adults ,well known and renowed artist Sahoko Blake will host a life drawing workshop in the
beautful and historic suroundings of Kilenure Castle over 2 days .This amazing opportunity can be

Are you free, and would like to be involved in the creation of a sculpture over 24hours in the centre
of Cashel, on the Plaza. Starting on Saturday 10th November at 12noon, working right through till
12noon on Sunday the 11th November for the Grand reveal, this is a great opportunity to work with
