Exciting entertainment at Relay for Life
An exciting programme of entertainment and fun, with something for all the family, is planned during the Relay for Life event taking place in St Michael’s GAA Park in Toomevara on 25th and 26th of this month. All kinds of musicians, groups and dancers will perform during the event while for the children there will be events such as Go Karts on Saturday evening, with art, face-painting and mono-printing among the activities for Sunday. In addition, there will be a whole series of fun laps in the event itself – laps such as the pink lap, the mad hat lap, the PJs and dressing gown lap, the bras and boxers lap and the Relay for Life Olympics (not to be confused with the serious stuff that just went on in London!)
The entertainment kicks off on Saturday at 4.30pm with the Nenagh Brass Band, followed by a warm-up by Carmell DeMello, leading up to the official opening of the event at 5pm. The Borrisokane Gospel choir are on stage at 5.30pm, Nikki MacLoone and Michael O Meara dancers at 6pm, Noel Connolly and Friends traditional music at 6.30, The Baby Powers at 7.30 and Raffiki at 9pm. After the Candle of Hope Ceremony, Madeline and Ger Lovett will take to stage with their Karoake at 10.30, with Shane Bracken performing at midnight. Then there will be background music throughout the night.
On Sunday morning, Lisa Hall gets things moving and shaking again at 8am with her Wake-up Shake-up. Then, after the Relay for Life Olympics, Pat White takes the stage at 10am, the MacLoone/O Meara Academy of Dance at 11.15, the Pat Mulcahy Band at 11.45, Martin the Freshman Ryan at 1.15pm, Out of Diesel at 2.15 and then Ebony at 3.15 playing right up to the closing ceremony at 4.45pm.
All the entertainment acts have very willingly offered their services free for the event. For many of them, this is their second year to do so. Hughie McGrath of Ebony who played at last year’s Relay says that the band is delighted to be associated with the event. He says that the cancer is something that has touched every family in the county, and added “the atmosphere at Relay for Life last year was something really special, and we are looking forward to being there again this year”. The Relay committee wish to acknowledge the support of all the performers and to thank them for their generosity.
So, from 4.30pm Saturday 25th to 5pm Sunday 26th August, come along to Toomevara with all the family for an enjoyable, eye-opening and uplifting Relay for Life experience.
