Gerard Heenan 1959-2012, Shannon Rovers
We were all very saddened to hear of the untimely death of Ger Heenan, Shannon Rovers Club Secretary last week. Ger had represented the club as a player, was Chairman of the Club in 1996 and 1997 and Club Secretary for the past 10 years. He was their representative to North Board meetings since 1995 and one of the most popular officials in the county. He always represented his club with great effect while maintaining his affable and friendly demeanour. His son Paddy continues the involvement of the Heenan family with the Rovers and is their current goalkeeper. To his wifeBreda, daughter Sarah and Paddy we offer our deepest sympathy. Munster Grants Information Night
A large attendance of club representatives from all four divisions descended on the John Doyle GAA Centre in Holycross on Monday June 11th. The event kicked off with a tour of the new club facilities by members of the Holycross-Ballycahill GAA Club. The formal proceedings commenced with a presentation by Denis Floyd on the importance of compiling a Club Plan. There were short presentations from Upperchurch-Drombane (Mary Ryan) and Nenagh Eire Óg (Jim Nagle) about the club plans both clubs have recently completed. CountyChairmanSean Nugent then updated the clubs present on the exciting development plans for Dr. Morris Park in the coming years. The main topic of discussion for the evening was the Munster GAA Club Grant Scheme for 2012. Munster GAA Chairman Sean Walsh informed those present that the Munster Council has distributed €6.7 million in grants based on €39 million spent by clubs in the province over the last 4 years, including over €1 million in grants to Tipperaryclubs. Details of the various development grant categories were explained in detail by Sean Walsh including Field Purchase, Dressing room construction, Schools Grounds Purchase & Development, Handball Court Development, Sanding Grant Scheme and Other Club Development Projects. Following a useful Question and Answers session, County Development Officer Jimmy Minogue wrapped up the proceedings with a reminder that while the closing date for 2012 grant applications is Friday September 28th, it is important that clubs have their applications in order in advance of that date to avoid any last minute problems.
