Two great nights of music in Bowes Bar Thurles : “Whistle This” and Acoustra single launch.

Bowes Bar Friar Street Thurles has two great events happening in the month of June. Outside of the regular high quality entertainment the bar presents every week, these two events should prove to be extra special.

The first one hosted by Tom Lyons is the very popular “Whistle This” and will take place on Friday June 8th. The purpose of the event is to provide an intimate setting for artists to perform original music, songs and poetry, unique cover songs can also be heard. “Whistle This” runs once a month and has grown to gather a very large following.

Artists on stage for this event are:

Tom Lyons, Paul Byrne and friends, The innovative sound of “studying murder” featuring Rory Dwyer, Nial O Shaughnessy and Susan Dwyer on violin. Avi  McGourty originally from Templemore will also be performing, making her way up from Waterford where she now lives. Poetry contributions will come from Shane Lyons and Larry O’Sullivan.  The door is open for any others who may just happen to pop in on the night.

A week later on Friday June 15th Tom is on hand again to launch a single release of Limerick based Folk/Rock group Acoustra. The group features local Thurles native accordionist Pat Wright. The single is a catchy, warm acoustic cover of Mike and the Mechanics “The Living years”.  The band will also be performing a set of original material and is a show not to be missed. Other performers on the night will include, Host Tom Lyons, Andy Mooney, A great singer songwriter from Scariff and  Sean Feery from Cashel who writes and performs with a magical touch.

Acoustra say they are really looking forward to the Bowes gig. It is a great opportunity to give the single a good launching pad and want to thank Tom, the Bowes staff and the guest performers for their help and support.

Both shows will kick off at around 10 pm so be sure to come early and secure a good seat.
