Jobs boost shows Cork becoming a world leader in cloud computing – Prendergast

The announcement of 30 new jobs at software firm Big Fish Games shows Cork
is becoming a world-leader in computing, according to Labour MEP Phil
Prendergast.

The firm, which already employs 70 staff in the county, specialises in the
production of online games played in over 150 countries worldwide. The
jobs are located in its cloud computing development centre at Cork RD&I
centre.

Ms Prendergast said: “I welcome the announcement of these high-quality and
high-skilled jobs. Cork is quickly becoming, not just a national leader,
but a world-leader in computing and, in particular, cloud computing. The
announcement of these jobs, in such a well-respected international
company, will help put the spotlight on Cork and hopefully encourage more
companies to set up camp here.

“Just last week, Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn announced special
funding for cloud computing courses at the Cloud Computing Centre of
Excellence at Cork Institute of Technology. The announcement of the jobs
at Big Fish shows these courses can translate into long-term, sustainable
employment.

“These IDA-backed positions also show the government’s job strategy is
delivering results.”
