SCOR NA MUMHAN

Bhí an-lá ag muintir Scór Thiobraid Árann i gCeapach Choinn ar an Domhnach nuair a ghlac sé chlub ón gcontae páirt i gcraobh na Mumhan. A wonderful day was had by all in Cappaquinn on Sunday last when 6 Tipperary clubs took part in the Munster Finals of Scór na n-Óg. Young people from JK Brackens, Upperchurch Drombane, Loughmore Castleiney, Borris-Ileigh, Templederry Kenyons and Newport represented the county proudly on stage. Bhí an caighdeán thar barr agus dhein na daoine óga seo éacht is gaisce ar stáitse na Mumhan. Tá moladh thar na bearta tuillte acu, ag a dtuistí, ag na moltóirí, ag na traenálaithe, ag an lucht leanúna agus ag Coiste Scór na Mumhan ar fheabhas a gcuid niarrachtaí. Tréaslaimid le bailéad ghrúpa Teampall Uachtar a théann ar aghaidh go Caisleán an Bharraigh agus déanaimid comhghairdeas le na clubanna eile a dhein a seacht ndícheall ag an ócáid agus taispéantas den scoth á chur os ár gcomhair. Congratulations to the Upperchurch Drombane ballad group on qualifying for the All Ireland finals in Castlebar and well done to all of Tipperary’s other representatives on their excellent performances. The captivated audience in Cappaquin certainly witnessed a showpiece of all that is best in Scór. Maith sibh.

ANNERVILLE AWARDS BY UNITED SPORTS PANEL

Congratulations to Connie Cleere from Nenagh, who won All-Ireland Handball titles at minor, junior and senior level in a career that stretched from the late 1950s to the 1970s, on receiving the Knocknagow Award from the Tipperary United Sports Panel. Connie received the award – which each year is presented to a sportsperson of the past – at the Sports Panel’s annual function, which was held at Hotel Minella, Clonmel on Saturday, January 28. It was no surprise that the Tipperary Minor Footballers won the Annerville Gaelic Football award. There was a double success for the team as manager David Power was selected for the Sean Lyons Sports Executive Award. The footballers weren’t the only Tipperary team to win an All-Ireland Minor championship, as the county camogie team did likewise by winning the A title for the first time. They were also honoured, as were the county U-14 Ladies Footballers who won the All-Ireland championship, also for the first time, when they beat Roscommon in the final. Padraic Maher was the Sports Panel’s choice in Hurling. Ballina handballer, Fergal Collins was chosen for his second successive award – and his fourth in total – after completing an All-Ireland double in the U-21 Singles 40 x 20 and 60 x 30 for the second successive year. The awards were sponsored by Bulmers.

Good luck to Nenagh CBS for their Dr. Harty Cup Munster Colleges senior hurling semi-final against Ard Scoil Ris of Limerick on Sunday February 5 at Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town at 2.30pm.  The other semi-final will be an all Waterford affair between De La Salle and Coláistí na nDéise Thiar at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Saturday, February 4 at 2.30pm.
