Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. notes 19th Dec

We would like to wish all our athletes, coaches, parents & supporters a very happy Christmas. We thank everyone who has supported and helped us out in 2011 & look forward to a joyful & successful 2012.

The Club’s Annual Christmas Party & Awards Ceremony was held on Friday 16th December in Pouldine School Hall. Our thanks to Tommy & Orlaith Healy for providing the disco, to our ladies for all the refreshments & to all who helped out on the night. Award Winners for 2011 were as follows:-

Best Overall Female Athlete – Ciara Mockler

Ciara has enjoyed great success this year winning Munster silver in the Girls Indoor & Outdoor U/15 Shot Putt, Munster Bronze in the U/15 Discus, Munster Schools Indoor & Outdoor Silver in the Girls Shot Putt, National Bronze in the Girls U/15 Discus & a National Pewter medal for 4th place in the Girls U/14 Shot Putt at the Community Games Finals in Athlone.

Best Overall Male Athlete – Daniel Ryan

Daniel has had a terrific year of athletics breaking the Munster Indoor Record in the Boys U/13 60m Hurdles & the Munster Outdoor Record in the Boys U/13 Long Jump & he also holds the Munster record for the Boys U/13 Outdoor Combined Events. He is the current Munster Champion in the Boys U/13 60m (Outdoors), High Jump (Indoors), 60m Hurdles (Indoors & Outdoors), Long Jump (Outdoors) & Outdoor Combined Events, the Munster Silver medallist in the Boys U/13 Indoor Combined Events, a National Silver medallist in the Boys U/13 Long Jump (Outdoors) & a National Community Games Silver medallist out of his age in the Boys U/14 Hurdles.

Most Improved Female – Niamh Woodlock

Niamh has made great progress in the area of the High Jump & came 3rd in the Girls U/12 High Jump in the County Indoor Championships. She has also competed in numerous other events over the Track & Field season.

Most Improved Male – Dillon Ryan

Dillon has gone from strength to strength, winning Bronze at the Munster Indoors in both the Boys U/9 60m & Long Jump and Bronze in the County Indoors Boys U/9 60m & Silver in the Long Jump. He is also the County Outdoor Champion in the Boys U/9 300m & Long Jump & a Bronze medallist in the 60m. Dillon won National Bronze with his team-mate Cillian McDonagh in the Boys U/9 300m at the National Team Games & they came 4th in the Long Jump at the same competition.  Dillon also won double Munster gold with Cillian in the Boys U/9 300m & the Boys U/9 Long Jump at the Munster Team Games in Clare in June.

Most Dedicated Female – Sorcha Scott

Sorcha’s dedication has seen her compete in a large part of the Track & Field competitions over 2011. She came 2nd in the County “B” Track & Field Championships in the Girls U/9 200m & also won Silver in the Girls U/9 60m Silver Final at the County Indoor Championships.

Most Dedicated Male – Oran Mulhall

Oran has shown his dedication by taking part in all major 2011 Track & Field competitions. He is the current County Outdoor Champion in the Boys U/12 Shot Putt & 7th in Munster, he came 4th in the Boys U/12 Ball Throw at the Munster Championships & 11th in the National Championships in Tullamore & was a member of the Club’s 4 x 100m Relay team who came 5th in the National Finals. He was also a member of the Boys U/12 4 x 100m Relay team from Moycarkey Borris who won National Pewter medals for 4th place in Athlone in August.

Cross Country

Best Overall Female Athlete – Shauna Hayden

Shauna has performed very well over the season competing for Tipperary at the National Uneven Age Cross Country Championships in the Curragh where the Tipp team came 5th overall. She won a Bronze Munster Inter-County medal with Tipperary in the Girls U/17 race & was 2nd home for Tipperary on the day in 14th place. She also came home in 14th place at the Munster Even Age Cross Country Championships in Clare. She came 2nd in the Girls U/18 race at the County Even Age Cross Country Championships in the Middlepiece & was 6th in the Girls U/17 race at the County Uneven Age Championships.

Best Overall Male Athlete – Jack Fallon

Jack has enjoyed a great season coming 17th overall at the National Even Age Cross Country Championships in Sligo & winning a Gold Inter-Region medal with Munster on the day. He was 3rd in the Boys U/12 race at Munster Even Age Cross Country Championships in Clare and the first athlete home for Tipperary & he also won a Bronze Inter-County medal for Tipperary. He is the current County Champion in the Boys U/12 & a silver medallist in the Boys U/13.

Most Improved Female – Clodagh Fallon

Clodagh continues to steadily improve & shine in Middle Distance. She was 4th in the Girls U/11 race at the County Uneven Age Championships in Clonmel & also ran very well in the Girls U/11 race at the Munster Championships in Clonmel.

Most Improved Male – Cillian Mc Donagh

Cillian has enjoyed a great season of Cross Country running winning a Silver Munster Inter-County medal with Tipperary at the Munster Juvenile Uneven Age Championships in Clonmel when he came home in 18th place in the Boys U/9 race. He also came 2nd in the Boys U/9 race at the County Uneven Age Championships in Clonmel & was 9th in the Boys U/10 race at the County Even Age Championships.

Most Dedicated Female – Emma Shelly

Emma has shown her dedication by rarely missing a training session & taking part in numerous County & Munster competitions over the year. She came 4th in the County “B” Girls U/10 race & her team won Silver on the day.

Most Dedicated Male – Sean Mockler

Sean’s dedication has taken him to all the Cross Country competitions for 2011. He came 7th in the Boys U/12 race at the County “B” Championships & was an important part of the Boys U/12 & U/13 Club teams with the Boys U/12 team winning County Silver at the Even Ages, Bronze in the County Relays & finishing 5th at the Munster Even Age Championships.

Moycarkey Borris Community Games held their AGM in the Community Hall, Two Mile Borris on Wednesday 14th December. Officers elected for 2012 are as follows:-

Chairman: Donal Hayes, Secretary: Aisling Hoey, Treasurer: Josephine Martin, PRO: Jim Ryan, Children’s Officer: William McDonagh.
