Tipp teams defeated in Munster Club

Commiserations to Kildangan and Rockwell Rovers on their defeats in the Munster Junior Club football and hurling championships last weekend. In the junior football final, Dromid Pearses of Kerry defeated Kildangan by 0-15 to 1-5. In the junior hurling semi-finals, Rockwell Rovers lost to Charleville by 2-14 to 0-8.

Drom And Inch Win Another County Final

These are happy days around The Ragg! Congratulations to Drom and Inch on adding underage success to their senior successes in hurling and camogie when the defeated Burges by 0-15 to 1-7 in the county minor B hurling final replay at Kenyon  Park Templederry last Saturday. It was their fourth title at this grade with the previous successes coming in 1984, 1995 and 2003. Drom and Inch can add a third county hurling title to their list of achievements for this year if they defeat Arravale Rovers in the county junior hurling B final on Saturday December 10.

County Junior B Football Final

Clonmel Commercials will play Rockwell Rovers in the county junior B football final at Cahir on Sunday next December 4 at 2pm. Neither side has won this title previously and both clubs are looking for their second county title of the year. Commercials won the county minor A football title and Rockwell Rovers won their first ever adult county title a couple of weeks ago in the junior hurling final.

Book Launches

The John Harrington scripted biography of John Doyle, “The Geatest Hurling Story Ever Told” was launched last Thursday night at the Anner Hotel in the presence of a large crowd. Described by publisher Liam Hayes, the former Meath footballer, as the best GAA book ever written, it’s bound to attract a lot of interest in the period coming up to Christmas. It’s for sale in bookshops and newsagents in Tipperary and throughout the country. Last week was also special for the Ardfinnan Club as GAA President Christy Cooney launched the club’s history of the period 1910 to 2010 which was written by Michael O’Meara, former Secretary of the South Board. It’s an entertaining read enlivened by a great collection of photographs. The book is for sale throughout the county and costs €45.  Well done to all in the Ardfinnan Club who put so much effort and good work into researching this account of their history.

Canon Hayes Award For Minor Footballers

Congratulations to the Tipperary Minor Football Team which captured the 2011 County Award at the Canon Hayes National Sports Awards at Ballykisteen Hotel & Golf Resort on Saturday last. The Minor Footballers saw off very strong competition from Cashel R.F.C. and St. Michael’s A.F.C. in the County Award category and Team Captain, Liam McGrath and Manager, David Power, were on hand to receive their award from Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Alan Kelly, T.D. In announcing the award winner the Chairman of the Canon Hayes Centre, Martin Quinn said that the fantastic fighting spirit and steel of the team came to the fore on several occasions throughout the year and their victory over Dublin in the All-Ireland Final rounded off a fantastic year for the team and management and for the continued progress and development of football in Tipperary.

Tipperary Clubs Draw

All roads lead to Bannons Bar, Two Mile Borris this Friday December 2 to celebrate with local club Moycarkey Borris and Vincent Flood, who scooped the year’s second star prize of €20,000 in the Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw in November. On the night Vincent will be presented with his cheque and €500 will be presented to promoter of the winning ticket, Billy Lanigan. Michael Lanigan of Gortnahoe will receive a cheque for €3,000 which he also won in the November draw. Over 30 prizes will be given away on the night as usual with the star prize of an Octavia Car or €15,000 alternative to be won, along with a TV, holiday and other cash prizes. So come along and celebrate with the local club and get your Christmas off to an early start. Youth Forum

The County Youth Committee is hosting a Youth Forum for Transition Year students this Friday, December 2 in The Dome at Semple Stadium. The purpose of the Forum is to listen to the views of our young members and provide them with a platform to allow them to share their ideas and to put forward suggestions as the how the GAA could improve as an organisation going forward. This Forum will be workshop based where delegates will work in groups discussing various topics and providing feedback.  The topics for the workshops include Games, GAA and the Community, Urbanisation, Communication and Information Technology, Rural Clubs, Match Days – Tickets/Presentation. Both Paudie Butler, former GAA National Director of Hurling and David Power, Tipperary Minor Football Manager will give short presentations on the day. There has been a very positive response from the Post Primary schools in the county to the forum and each school that has registered will be represented by four delegates. The Forum will run from 10.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

Scór Na Nóg

The results of Scór na nÓg Mid final in Littleton on Saturday November 26 were:  Rince Foirne:- J. K. Brackens;  Amhranaiocht Aonair:- Drom/Inch Ashley Shanahan;  Ceol Uirlise :- Loughmore/Castleiney;  Aithriseoireacht:- J.K. Brackens Aine Fogarty;  Bailead Ghrupa:- Upperchurch/Drombane; Trath na gCeisteanna:- Loughmore/Castleiney; Nuachleas:- Loughmore/Castleiney; and  Rince Seit:  J.K. Brackens.  They will now go on to the County final in Cashel on Friday December 9 at 7.30pm.  The Munster semi-finals are on January 7 and 8 with the Munster final in Cappaquin on January 29.  The All Ireland final is in Castlebar on Saturday February.18 2012.

Ireland Reaching Out And The GAA Team Up

Ireland Reaching Out (Ireland XO) and the GAA will launch an innovative pilot programme aimed at attracting members of the Irish Diaspora to the GAA club network worldwide in San Francisco on Sunday next, December 4.  The simple idea is that as parish communities around Ireland identify people connected with their parish through their genealogical research, they introduce them through the Ireland XO organisation to the nearest international GAA club so that they can learn about, and possibly participate in Irish sporting culture, well away from Ireland. Over 450 GAA clubs are now in existence outside of Ireland around the world. The pilot project will be launched by GAA President Christy Cooney, and Ireland XO Chairman, Mike Feerick, at a special brunch event at the Treasure Island GAA facilities. The event is being held in conjunction with the visit of the 2011 Hurling All-Stars to San Francisco. Leading members of the Irish technology community in Silicon Valley will also attend the event.  It is hoped that should the project prove successful in San Francisco, it will be rolled out to all GAA clubs worldwide.

It’s not such a long way to Tipperary after all!

The Tipperary GAA website has been accessed from 115 different countries so far this year. It’s a sign of the times with emigration very much the only option for work for many of our young people. It’s also a sign of the power of the Internet and its importance in promoting and reporting on our games and activities. The home, fixtures, results and news pages are the most popular with site visitors.
