Moycarkey Coolcroo AC club notes 3rd Oct

The Tipperary Juvenile Even Age & Novice Cross Country Championships took place in the Middlepiece, Two Mile Borris on Sunday 2nd October. Our thanks to all who assisted in setting up the course & provided help on the day. 24 of our juvenile athletes took part & we had a great day winning 7 individual medals & 2 sets of team medals (1 gold, 1 silver). Congratulations to all our athletes who took part & represented the Club so well. Individual medals were won by Adam O’Dwyer, Kyle Shelly, Cillian McDonagh, Jack Fallon, James Dillon, Rhys Shelly & Shauna Hayden. Team medals were won by the Boys U/10 & the Boys U/12. First race of the day was the Girls U/10 1000m with Emma Shelly leading the Club home in 21st place followed closely by Lucy Dillon in 26th, Alisha Price Carroll in 36th, Amy Britton in 37th & Sorcha Scott in 39th place. The girls finished 6th overall in the team competition. The Boys U/10 1000m race was a great one for the Club with Adam O’Dwyer storming home in 1st place with Kyle Shelly in 5th place just ahead of Cillian McDonagh in 9th place. With Andrew Kavanagh finishing in 17th place & Evan Tobin in 25th place this earned them a super Gold team medal. Next race of the day was Girls U/12 2000m where Siobhan Price Carroll gave a very good account of herself finishing in 15th place overall. Our Boys U/12 also competed very well with Jack Fallon showing great form to take a gold individual medal. James Dillon finished in 8th place, Rhys Shelly in 11th place with all 3 boys winning individual medals & displaying their great strength & speed. Oran Mulhall (20th), Sean Mockler (25th), Ben O’Dwyer (30th), Tom Maher (37th), Michael O’Donnell (38th) & Bill O’Keefe (42nd) also ran very well in the same race. The Boys won a Silver team medal for all their good efforts. In the Girls U/14 3000m, Holly Tobin was our only competitor & she ran a good solid race over the long distance holding her place throughout to come home in 15th place. In the Boys U/14 2000m, Kieren Hennessy was our only competitor & he ran well to come home in 10th place. Shauna Hayden had a great run in the Girls U/18 to come home in 2nd place while Catriona Hayes ran well to finish in 6th place.

The Club was also represented in the County Novice Championships when Tim Hayden ran well in the Novice Men’s 6km finishing in 49th place overall.

The Tipperary Primary Schools Cross Country Championships took place in Thurles Crokes Complex on Wednesday 28th September. Well done to all our athletes who took part but in particular to Liam McCullagh, Scoil Mochaomhog Naofa & his pupils who won 5 individual medals & 3 sets of team medals on the day. Gold medals were won by sister & brother Clodagh & Jack Fallon in the Girls 3rd/4th Class Large Schools race & 5th/6th Large Schools race, Silver went to Siobhan Price Carroll in the Girls 3rd/4th Class Large Schools race, Eimear Ryan in the Girls 5th/6th Class Large Schools race while Bronze was won by Tasha Tully in the Girls 3rd/4th Class Large Schools race. Gold team medals were won by the Girls 3rd/4th Class Large Schools team of Clodagh Fallon (1st), Siobhan Price Carroll (2nd), Tasha Tully (3rd) & Anna Ryan (6th). Scoil Mochaomhog Naofa was the only school to achieve a 1,2,3 in any of the races, a really great achievement & testament to all the hard work their teacher, Liam Mc Cullagh put into the competition. Silver team medals were won by the Boys 5th/6th Class Large Schools team of Jack Fallon (1st), James Dillon (8th), David Ryan (11th) & PJ Tunstall (15th). Bronze team medals were won by the Boys 3rd/4th Class Large Schools team of Shane Burke (5th), Jack Ryan (11th), Liam McDonagh (23rd) & Jack Morrisey (24th). Other Club athletes who competed well were Kate Sheridan (27th 3rd/4th Major Schools), Emma Shelly (30th 3rd/4th Large Schools), Adam O’Dwyer (1st 3rd/4th Large Schools), Kyle Shelly (8th 3rd/4th Large Schools), Tom Maher (33rd 3rd/4th Large Schools), Andrew Kavanagh (55th 3rd/4th Large Schools), Evan Tobin (65th 3rd/4th Large Schools),  Gavin Hayden (50th 5th/6th Major Schools), Jessica Hayes (16th 5th/6th Large Schools), Holly Tobin (25th 5th/6th Large Schools), Maria Lanigan (56th 5th/6th Large Schools), Rhys Shelly (22nd 5th/6th Class Large Schools), Sean Mockler (25th 5th/6th Large Schools), Ben O’ Dwyer (31st 5th/6th Large Schools), Conor Cummins (33rd 5th/6th Large Schools), Declan Ryan (35th 5th/6th Large Schools), David O’Donnell (36th 5th/6th Large Schools), Eamon Martin (57th 5th/6th Large Schools), Jonathan Ely (91st 5th/6th Large Schools) & Bill O’Keefe (94th 5th/6th Large Schools).

Thanks to all the teachers from the parish who took the time to prepare the teams so well for this great event & to all the parents & supporters who came along to cheer the children on. Congratulations to Liam McCullagh, Scoil Mochaomhog Naofa, Two Mile Borris on his winning individuals & teams, to Robert White, Pouldine N.S. on his winning individual (Adam O’Dwyer 1st in Boys 3rd/4th Class Large Schools) & Christy Clancy, Littleton N.S. on his winning team (Girls 5th/6th Class Small Schools). It’s a just reward for all their hard work & dedication. Much appreciated by us all.

Congratulations & well done to our Club athletes who competed at St. Senan’s Open Cross Country Day in Kilmacow, Co. Waterford on Sunday last. Jack Fallon did very well to win Silver in the Boys U/12 race.

Cross Country Training takes place every Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in the Middlepiece, Two Mile Borris. New athletes & help are most welcome.
