Dundrum Athletic Club notes 17th Oct

On October 16, 2011 the county intermediate cross country was hosted in Clonmel. The ladies race was off first over a distance of 4K, Catherine Kelly was first home for the club in 3rd position. Claire Devitt and Mary Keane were in 9th and 13th positions and the three girls combined to win the bronze medals in the team category. The men’s race was over a distance of 8K, Kevin Moore had a brilliant run finishing in second position. Martin Keane, James Ryan and Ruaidhri Devitt all ran well finishing in 8th, 10th and 14th positions. The lads combined excellently to claim the gold medals in the team category for the fifth time in six years. Tommy Byrnes and Graham Butler were in 20th and 29th positions and Liam Butler and Noel Casey were in 43rd and 50 position. The Munster novice will take place next Sunday the 23rd of October.
Juvinile results
Last Sunday the county uneven age juvenile cross country was held in Clonmel racecourse. we had 24 athletes taking part. We got off to a good start in the girls U/9 where Eva O’Dwyer ran a great race to come in 3rd. Caoibhe McCormack and Mary Kate Treacy also put in fine performances. In the boys U/9 we had a great performance from Stephen Ferncombe who came 1st to take gold. Cormac Carr was next home in 11th and was well backed up by Jamie Duncan,Philip Treacy and Danny O’Shea to win the team silver medals. In the girls U/11 Rosanna O’Donnell had a good run. In the boys U/11 we had another good win with Joshua O’Dwyer taking the gold medal in style. Stephen Browne was 6th and Hugo Bourke 15th but unfortunately we had no 4th scorer when team medals were there to be won. In the girls U/13 Jean kelly led our girls home in 7th with good runs also from Gemma Ryan and Katelyn O’Dwyer. In the boys U/13 we had 5 athletes. Cathal Carr led them home and was followed by John Purdue,Brendan O’Dwyer,Thomas Furlong and Tommy Moore.They finished out of the medals. Eimear Loughman had a fine run in the girls U/15 to be 2nd and lead her teammates Elaine kelly,Stephanie Moore and Megan Ryan to the silver medals.
