Like Samaritans, music can play an important role in helping make a connection and give strength to people struggling to cope. Each artist donated their time because they felt very close to the cause, choosing songs of significant meaning.
Chart-topping music sensation, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, is among the big names to have recorded a song for this one-of-a-kind uplifting album, in support of the charity. KT Tunstall, James Morrison and The Overtones also feature on the album which is a collection of original tracks and inspirational covers.
Showing their support for Samaritans, the album includes music from Ed Harcourt, Jay James Picton, Lucie Silvas, Jon Allen, Graham Gouldman of 10cc, Katie Kim and Queen Orlenes.
The 11-track album is available to purchase now from iTunes, Amazon, Play.com, and the Songs to Save a Life website.
Smooth Radio is the latest station to give Songs to Save a Life the thumbs up, hailing it ’album of the week’.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor talking about supporting Samaritans said: “I’m always a big fan of using music to spread happiness. Communication is a huge part in helping people through tough times and music is often a tool for that, I suppose Samaritans is the sort of flip-side of that too.”
Catherine Johnstone, Samaritans’ Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that the artists came together to record this album for us. All the profits raised will help fund our vital round-the-clock helpline to support anyone struggling to cope. We are encouraging everyone to dig deep and help us support more people who might not have anywhere else to turn. Please buy this album and help us to save lives.”
Every year, Samaritans receives 5 million calls for help – that’s one every 5 seconds and every 60 seconds, the charity answers a call from someone feeling suicidal. Songs to Save a Life is an album that can help Samaritans help others.
