Arts For All in Cashel Arts Fest 2011
With the dark evenings fast approaching, the Cashel Arts Fest committee is busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s Arts Fest programme. Now in its ninth successful year, Cashel Arts Fest 2011 is packed with events for all ages and interests to shake off the winter blues.
Dates to keep for your diary:
To kick off with: a themed Art Exhibition, Animals and Birds, on the 11th November in the Library, Council Chambers and Pop-up Gallery in shop fronts around Cashel Town (open for the duration of the Fest).
Literary Pub Trail, a free event that will immerse you in the stories, verse and history of some of the interesting tales of Cashel’s past. Meeting on the Plaza at 9 pm on the 12th Nov, the Trail will start in Feehan’s, move on to Mikey Ryan’s and then the Palace.
The Annual Food and Craft Fair on Sunday 13th, 11-4pm, (with the official opening of the Arts Fest at 3pm) promises to be a fun-packed family day. It will include: 2 free puppet shows, Gospel Choir, Sean Nós dance demonstration, St Patrick’s Brass Band and street entertainment.
Dublin Guitar Quartet will be playing in the Library on 17th November at 8pm – a great musical treat.
Due to popular demand Jack Wise is returning to the Arts Fest this year. This time you can enjoy his magic and comedy talents over a 3 course meal in Café Terrasse, at Cashel Shopping Centre. Be amazed at this unmissable night’s entertainment.
A Feast of Choral Music will be in store for you on the Saturday 19th of November in Ború Brú. Ireland’s leading Barbershop choir, 4 in a bar, will delight us with their sounds, also The Wilcollane Singers (the Cork city female voice choir), the Ursuline Chamber Choir and the Cashel Community School Choir.
Other events during the 10 day Fest include children’s and family workshops in: Pottery, Ballet, Animation, Creative Writing, Fly Tying, an Archaeological Dig, Creative Cake Decorating, and Drumming. Also, the annual Solo and Choir Singing Competion and an Art Trail.
Adult workshops include: Tapestry, Drumming, Jewellery, Photography, Mould and Casting, and Calligraphy.
Other events during the Cashel Arts Fest include: an Architecture Talk by Orla Murphy on Irish Rural Towns, a Celebration for the Irish Girl Guides Centenary, an Irish Short Film Night, and a Talk on Franz Liszt by Ian Fox.
