Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week

The 5th Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week takes place next month from Monday October 3rd – Sunday October 9th as thousands of people around the country host and attend breakfasts in homes, schools, offices and crèches to raise much-needed funds for the ISPCC Childline service.
Ireland’s football captain, Robbie Keane, took the time out to help launch the Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week before he had to return to his new home in America. The recently signed LA Galaxy star is an ISPCC ambassador and very supportive of the fundraiser saying “Breakfast is a great way to spend time with your family and what a good opportunity to raise vital funds for such a worthy cause”.

Due to lack of funding last year, Childline was only able to answer 65% of all the calls that were made by children across Ireland. While more children are being answered than ever before, sadly demand for the service has soared in recent months to over 16,000 calls a week. According to the hundreds of volunteers who man the service, the current financial situation is putting increasing strain on families, which is resulting in greater anxiety for children.

Alison Healy from Cheerios said, “We are delighted to be helping Childline reach out to every child that needs its help. Breakfast is such an important meal both nutritionally and socially so we encourage everyone to hold a breakfast – anywhere, anyplace, anytime and help us raise vital funds for Childline”

Taking part in Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week is easy, just call 1850 50 40 50 or visit www.ispcc.ie/breakfast <http://www.ispcc.ie/breakfast> . By taking part, people can make a real difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Ireland. This year everyone who hosts a breakfast will be in with the chance of having breakfast with Ireland’s best loved twins and ISPCC Childline ambassadors, Jedward. Another great reason to take part and make this year the biggest and best yet!

People can text the word ‘CHILD’ to 57080 from Monday 3rd – Sunday 9th October to donate €2 to a great cause. Ashley Balbirnie from ISPCC said “Our great thanks in advance to hundreds of people, schools and companies hosting a breakfast event. For many people hosting or indeed attending a breakfast is just not feasible and that is why we are hoping that people will still get behind this vital fundraising campaign by texting ‘CHILD’ to 57080”.
