Brian Friel’s “The Faith Healer” coming to The Source!
Frank is a faith healer. Traveling with his two companions, Grace and Teddy, he roams Scotland and Wales healing the sick. By the edge of forests, at the base of mountains, in remote coastal villages, the lame, the ill and the broken hearted gather for the Fantastic Francis Hardy: Faith Healer.
Hailed by the English-speaking world as an “Irish Chekhov” and the universally accented voice of Ireland, Brian Friel is Ireland’s greatest living playwright. From the production of his first internationally successful stage play Philadelphia, Here I Come! in 1964, and followed by acclaimed hits such as Dancing at Lughnasa, Aristocrats, Making History and Molly Sweeney to name but a few, Brian has risen to critical and popular acclaim worldwide.
Faith Healer is an intense, intimate and sometimes terrifying story of “Frank Hardy”, a travelling faith healer who never quite knows when “the gift” will work, but always knows when it won’t. He is accompanied by his wife/mistress Grace Hardy and his business manager Teddy.
As we are drawn deeper into the world of Frank and his companions, our certainties fall away as we are led towards the play’s haunting, tender and passionate finale. Faith Healer takes us into the heart of what it means to believe in the power of unforgettable unconditional love. Not to be missed.
