Thurles Greyhound Stadium to host night in aid of Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA)

On Friday 9th September 2011, a national fundraising night in aid of Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) will take place across ten greyhound stadiums nationwide. The event which is being run in conjunction with the Irish Greyhound Board will see stadia in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick, Longford (26th September), Mullingar (8th September), Tipperary, Tralee and Waterford raise essential funds for the services IWA provides to people with physical disabilities living in these areas.

All funds raised on the night will be invested immediately to avoid the dilution of the vital services, IWA provides to over 20,000 members including Assisted Living Services, Resource and Outreach Centres, Driving Tuition, Sport and Holidays. Tickets for the national event cost €10 and this includes admission to the stadium, a race programme and entry into a grand prize draw which will take place on the evening.

Speaking about the national fundraising event, IGB representative Elizabeth Igoe said:

“All ten stadia were delighted to be in a position to support a local charity and local people living in their area. IWA has a presence in almost every county in Ireland and the stadiums in each county are all fully accessible which means that a great night of entertainment and excitement can be had by all. IWA provided over 2 million hours of services last year and we hope that the fundraising night will assist them to continue to deliver this remarkable level of services in 2011.”

Local organisations and companies have also been playing their part by sponsoring the event and assisting with ticket sales and promotions. Across all ten stadiums there will be fantastic prizes including weekend breaks, gift vouchers and hampers up for grabs as well as the excitement and fun associated with a night at the dogs.

Helen Martyn, IWA Director of Fundraising said:

“IWA would like to thank the IGB for their wonderful support and assistance involved with the organisation and planning of this national fundraising event. A great night is sure to be had by all on Friday 9th September and I would urge anyone who would like to come along on the night and support IWA to purchase a ticket for just €10 from”
