Magnificent Relay for Life event held in Toomevara
The first Relay for Life Tipperary held in Toomevara last weekend was a highly successful and very moving event. With 42 teams and over 900 participants as well as 90 survivors and as many carers, and thousands of supporters and well-wishers over the 24 hours, it was a magnificent occasion. The Candle of Hope and Fight Back ceremonies were particularly poignant and moving. The organising committee wish to thank Liam Sheedy for opening the event, and Noreen Ryan (Tipperary Rose), Donnacha Ryan (Ireland rugby international), the Irish Cancer Society, members of the Tipperary hurling team and members of the ambulance and civil defence who supported the event. They wish to extend a particular thanks to the members of Toomevara GAA Club who gave unstinting and invaluable support throughout the event. Relay was deemed a huge success by everyone involved, and will have raised significant funds for fighting cancer – final figures will be announced in the coming weeks. Onwards now for next year …
