Killavilla United AFC Open Day 7th August 2011
This past Sunday, 7th August, Killavilla United held their open day in Villa Park, Roscrea. The event was held in association with three mobile and Spencer/Spillane (main street, Roscrea) who the club would like to extend a warm thanks to for their participation. We would also like to thank Karen Eastwood for her photography of the day.
The weather was fantastic in the morning, which provided a beautiful backdrop to the schoolboy’s games. Our Under 12, Under 13 and Under 14 teams had pre-season games against Portlaoise which were well attended in a relaxed, family environment which everyone enjoyed. These games were followed by our Under 15’s side out against Limerick Regional. A good competitive match with some fantastic exhibits of football for all to enjoy.
Our Barbeque provided food and entertainment from Sive Fitzgerald and Elaine Walsh, with a few balloons running away on our younger visitors, not to worry though as they were hastily replaced to save the tears. Three were also on hand with the Three Mobile Bus to provide mobile phones to keep many occupied for the duration.
At 2pm our Under 19 Youth team took on Nenagh to kick start the season. Manager Stephen Glynn had a headache with a large squad, a testament to the Killavilla United Youth teams’ performances over the past 2 seasons. Highlights of the game seen team captain Micky Ryan take on all comers with some strong close control and midfielder Robbie Ryan show some of his quality with fancy footwork.
The afternoon was dedicated to a senior tournament. Involved with Killavilla United were eventual winners Mountmellick, Rosenallis and Henry Healy’s Moneygall. A good start for Killavilla as they defeated Rosenallis 2-0. Although eventually beaten 3-2 by Mountmellick, Killavilla showed some good quality and were unlucky to lose a goal in the last few minutes.
Club chairman Eddie Noonan wrapped up the day by thanking all participating clubs, referees and club members for a wonderful day.
