TIPP V CLARE MUNSTER SH SEMI-FINAL

Good luck to the Tipperary senior hurlers and management for their Munster semi-final against Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on Sunday next June 19 at 4pm. James Owens of Wexford will referee the game. The game will be preceded by the Munster Intermediate semi-final between Clare and Cork at 1.45pm. Ticket prices are as follows for the Munster hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Clare on Sunday June 19 at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick: covered stand €30, uncovered stand €25, terrace €15, family – adult €30/€25 with juveniles €5, student/OAP – concession on stand tickets only – pay full price and get a refund of €10 at specified Stiles on the day (on production of valid I.D).  The Munster Council ticket van will be in Tipperary and Clare during the week at the following times and venues: Wednesday June 15 10:30am to 1:30pm – Nenagh (Centra, Clare St. Nenagh), 2:30pm to 5:30pm – Templemore (O’Connell’s Centra); Thursday June 16 10:30am to 1:30pm – Scariff (Rodgers Centra), 2:30pm to 5:30pm – Ennis (Centra Gort Road), Friday June 17 10:30am to 1:30pm – Carrick-on-Suir (Centra), 2:30pm to 5:30pm – Cashel (Ely’s Centra); Saturday June 18 10:30am to 1:30pm – Thurles (Ely’s Centra, The Mall) 2:30pm to 5:30pm – Newport (Ryan’s Centra). Supporters are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance to reduce queues and delays entering the stadium on Sunday.

ALL IRELAND SF QUALIFERS DRAW

Tipperary drew Laois in the All Ireland Senior Football qualifiers draw in a repeat of last year’s round 1 clash which Tipperary won by 0-13 to 0-12. Tipperary were outsiders for that game and probably will be again for this year’s clash but that will surely be a motivating factor for John Evans and the Tipperary players. The game has been fixed for O’Moore Park Portlaoise on Saturday June 25. Throw in will be at either 5pm or 7pm depending on whether or not there is a double header with the senior hurling championship qualifiers. If Laois defeat Cork in the hurling championship this weekend, then the football qualifier between Tipp and Laois will be part of a double header with Laois and Offaly in the hurling championship and the football game will start at 5pm. If it is a standalone fixture, the throw-in will be 7pm. Laois will be rank outsiders against Cork in the senior hurling qualifier but hold a 100% record in the championship against Cork – their only meeting was in the 1915 All Ireland final which Laois won by 6-2 to 4-1.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR MUNSTER UNDER 21 SEMI-FINAL

The Munster under 21 hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Cork which was originally fixed for Wednesday, July 20 will now take place on Friday, July 15 at Semple Stadium with the throw-in at 7.30pm.

MUNSTER MINOR HURLING SEMI-FINAL

The Munster minor hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Clare will take place at Semple Stadium on Friday June 24 at 7.30pm. Tipperary and Clare have met on 40 occasions in Minor Championship hurling. The Premier county leads the way with 31 wins, the Banner was victorious on 6 occasions and there have been 3 draws. Their last encounter was in last year’s Munster championship at Cusack Park Ennis when Clare won by 0-17 to 1-13. Their last semi-final meeting was in 2008 at Semple Stadium when Tipp won by 2-12 to 1-10.

COUNTY INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE

Newport, Holycross Ballycahill and Ballina have qualified for the semi-finals.  Three second placed teams in the three groups play off to get the fourth semi-final team.  The following is the draw: Clonakenny v Aherlow with the winner playing Ballinahinch.

COUNTY MINOR C HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Five teams will compete in the county minor C hurling championship – Fr Sheehys, Clerihan, Carrick Davins, Ballylooby Castlegrace and Rockwell Rovers. The championship will be run on a first round losers system.  The first game is a preliminary round between Rockwell Rovers and Fr Sheehys.  The winner will go into the semi-final with the loser playing in the first round. The first round winners will join the preliminary winner in the semi-final with the first round losers playing off for the final semi-final spot. The full draw is:  Preliminary Round – Rockwell Rovers v Fr Sheehys; Round (1) – Clerihan v First round loser; Ballylooby Castlegrace v Carrick Davins

MUNSTER COLLEGES DR. HARTY CUP DRAW

The draw has been made for the 2011/12 Dr. Harty Cup Munster Colleges senior hurling A competition. The following groups have been drawn: A – De La Salle Waterford, Ard Scoil Ris Limerick, Colaiste Chriost Ri Cork, Charleville CBS; B – Colaiste na nDeise Thiar, Midleton CBS, Our Lady’s Templemore, St. Caimins CC Shannon; C – Thurles CBS, St. Flannan’s College Ennis, St. Colman’s College Fermoy, Blackwater CS Lismore; D – Colaisti Chiarrai, Nenagh CBS, Castletroy CC. Two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals and the first round games will be on October 5 2011. There are plenty of exciting clashes to look forward to in the Autumn.

KILKENNY V WEXFORD REFEREE

Well done to referee, Johnny Ryan of Boherlahan Dualla and his team of umpires who officiated at the Wexford v Kilkenny Leinster senior hurling championship fixture at Wexford Park last Saturday night.

NEW MUNSTER GAA HEADQUARTERS

In April, Munster GAA signed a contract with Griffin Brothers Contracting Limited to build a new 10,000 square foot Headquarters to house the officers and staff of Munster GAA at Castletroy with a planned completion date of Summer 2012. Work began in May and on Thursday June 9, Munster GAA Chairman Sean Walsh and Munster GAA CEO Pat Fitzgerald were present on site to turn the first sod, a photo of which is attached. he construction phase will provide employment for 15 workers at its peak. This follows on from the contribution that the GAA has made to the construction industry in Munster in 2009 and 2010 which is valued at €33 million. TIPPERARY WIN FIRST ALL IRELAND U14 LADIES FOOTBALL TITLE

History was made in Banagher last Sunday when Tipp u14 ladies footballers won their first ever u14 All Ireland title when they defeated Roscommon on the scoreline of 3-07 to 1-06. This was a fantastic result for the girls and Tipperary ladies football as a lot of work has gone into underage development in the last 2 years and last Sunday was the culmination of this. Well done to captain Roisin Howard who led by example and scored 2-2 of her side’s total. Congratulations to all involved with this great success. Tipperary’s right half back was Siobhan Murchan, whose father Peter acts as medical consultant to Tipperary hurling teams.
