Tipperary County Athletics News
Congratulations to our President, Breeda Christie who received a National Volunteer in Sport Award for Athletics & Community Games in the AVIVA Stadium on Tuesday 31st May. The ‘National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sports’, celebrate the contributions of volunteers to Irish sport. These awards are an initiative of the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport in conjunction with the Federation of Irish Sports & are also supported by the Community Foundation of Ireland and the Irish Sports Council. Breeda was nominated by the Tipperary Sports Partnership for her dedication to sport. Breeda plays a huge role in County Tipperary Athletics where at 80 years young, she is the Assembler/Assistant Starter & P.A. Operator at all County Track & Field Championships. This is Breeda’s 3rd prestigious award recently as she was the 2010 overall winner of the Canon Hayes Volunteer in Sport Award in December & she received the Munster Athletics Hall of Fame Award to a standing ovation in January. Well done Breeda, we are inherently proud of you & appreciate all your hard work & dedication over the years.
Another of the County’s hardworking volunteers, Seamus Hartigan, Templemore A.C. received a “People of the Year Award” last weekend from Templemore Town Council for his dedication to sport. Seamus is well known around Templemore for the enormous amount of voluntary work he does for young people, particularly in the area of athletics & is always a smiling face around the track with plenty of helpful advice & thoughts. He has also been instrumental in reviving Community Games in the town. Well done Seamus on a well deserved award, keep up the good work.
