Details of AGM:
The Annual General Meeting of North Tipperary Macra na Ferime took place in
the Arch Bar, Thurles on Friday 17th June. There was an excellent turnout
and the committee would like to thank all those that participated as well as
all members and non members that supported them throughout the year.The Chairman, Mr. Tim Maher addressing the meeting stated that the
organisation in North Tipperary was going from strength to strength. Two new
clubs had been organised during the year and all six clubs in North Tipp are
in great shape. He paid tribute to Secretary Liz Kennedy who he said had
done Trojan work over the last two years. She is the rock on which North
Tipp Macra has been rebuilt. He also paid tribute to Development Officer,
Brigid Walsh, saying that without her, “there would be no North Tipp Macra”.
He thanked all outgoing officers and wished the best of luck to the new
officersThe new committee for the year 2011/2012 was elected to supersede the
outgoing committee who were thanked for their hard work and dedication
throughout the year. The new committee is as follows: Tim Maher (Chairman),
Antoinette Gleeson (Secretary), Maggie O’Keeffe (Treasurer), Martin Fogarty
(Vice-Secretary and Public Relations Officer), Catherine Maher
(Competitions Chairperson), Laura Ryan (Competitions Secretary), Alicia
O’Keeffe (Development Officer), Arthur Griffin (Development Officer), Marian
Keating (Sports, Social and Travel Officer), Eamonn Travers (Young Farmer
Development Group Chairman), John Joyce (Young Farmer Development Group
Secretary)and Kornelia Salber (President).Macra na Feirme is a voluntary organisation for young people between the
ages of 17 and 35. The organisation consists of a nationwide network of
clubs with five key areas of activity: agriculture, sports, travel, public
speaking and performing arts.
Macra is constantly recruiting new members and is a great way to meet new
people from different parts of the country. Almost every weekend there are
different activities and competitions organised. There are currently six
clubs in North Tipperary: Aglish, Clodagh, Devils Bit, Moyne/Templetuohy,
Nenagh and Newport.
