Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C.
Congratulations & well done to Ciara Mockler, our only representative in the Munster U/14 to U/19 Track & Field Championships in Castleisland, Co. Kerry last weekend. Ciara had a great day winning Silver in the Girls U/15 Shot Putt & Bronze in the Discus. She will now go forward to represent the Club & Tipperary at the National Track & Field Championships in Tullamore in July.
13 of our athletes took part in the Munster U/9 to U/11 Team Games & U/12 & U/13 Track & Field Championships on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th June in Ennis with outstanding success. In total, the Club won 7 Munster titles, 5 sets of team medals (3 gold & 2 silver), 5 individual medals (4 gold & 1 silver), a set of Silver Relay medals & a Championship Best Performance of 4.94m by Daniel Ryan in the Boys U/13 Long Jump.
In the Team Games competition, the Club entered 3 teams & they had an excellent day taking away 5 sets of medals between them. That tally would surely have been 6 but for our Boys U/10 team having the misfortune to miss the start of their 500m race. Despite the relentless rain in Ennis last Sunday, Cillian McDonagh & Dillon Ryan enjoyed great success in the Boys U/9 300m & Long Jump when they were crowned Munster Champions in both events. Dillon ran a stormer of a race in his heat leading from the gun & maintaining his speed right to the finish to win comfortable while Cillian ran the race of his life finishing his heat with a flourish by passing 2 athletes on the home straight to cross the line in 3rd place. With a combined score of 121.95, no team was faster than our boys so the gold medal was theirs. Next event up for the boys was the Long Jump which took place immediately after the 300m. Again Dillon & Cillan showed Munster what they were made of when their combined jumps of 5.91m won them another Munster title & another gold.
Our Boys U/10 team of Adam O’Dwyer & Kyle Shelly performed very well in the Ball Throw to win Silver with a combined score of 50.52m which made up in some way for their disappointment in missing their 500m race. In the Boys U/11 competition our dynamic duo of Shane Burke & Jack Ryan turned their speed & agility into medals by winning gold in the Long Jump with a combined jump of 7.65m & Silver in the 60m Sprint. In the hotly contested heats for the 60m, both boys were in top form winning their heats & finishing in 2nd place overall in a time of 18.64.
In the U/12 & U/13 individual events, the Club won half the tally of medals for the County claiming 4 gold medals, 4 Munster titles, 1 silver medal & a Munster Record. In the Boys U/12 Long Jump David Ryan had a great competition winning gold with a fine jump of 4.41m with Jack Fallon finishing in 5th place on 4.11m, his best jump to date. David will now be looking to jump well at the National Championships in Tullamore on 9th/10th July to add to his National Indoor Long Jump Title he won in Magherfelt in February. Sean Mockler had a good weekend winning silver in the U/12 Ball Throw finishing the competition with a fine throw of 42.60m with Oran Mulhall finishing 4th with another fine throw of 39.67m. Both boys will now represent the Club at the National Championships in July. Oran, Jack, David & Sean also performed well at the High Jump & were outside the medals but as Jack finished in 4th place with a jump of 1.20m, he will get to represent the Club at the National Championships in July. In the Boys U/12 Shot Putt, Sean Mockler was unlucky to finish in 4th place with a throw of 8.01m but he still gets to represent the Club in the National Finals in July while Rhys Shelly finished 5th at 7.40m & Oran Mulhall in 7th place on 6.41m. In the Boys U/12 4 x 100m Relay, our team of Oran Mulhall, Jack Ryan, David Ryan & Jack Fallon won silver in a time of 57.9 while our 2nd team of Sean Mockler, James Dillon, Shane Burke & Rhys Shelly ran very well but were outside the medals. In the Boys U/12 600m, Jack Fallon ran well to come home in 4th place with James Dillon, Oran Mulhall & Rhys Shelly also putting in good efforts.
Star athlete for the Club over the weekend was Daniel Ryan who won three Munster titles & broke another Munster Record. Daniel had an outstanding weekend winning gold in the Boys U/13 60mH, 80m Sprint & Long Jump, his best performances to date. In the Long Jump Daniel jumped 4.94m in the 3rd round breaking the existing Munster Outdoor Record of 4.88m which was set in 2008 by Promise Okofar, Bandon A.C. Congratulations & well done to Daniel & to all our athletes who performed so well & represented our Club with style on the Munster stage. Our 3 teams of Dillon & Cillian, Adam & Kyle & Shane & Jack now take part in the National Team Games this Saturday, 25th June in Templemore Track & we wish them the very best of luck on the day. As the event is local, it would be great if supporters could come along & cheer our boys on. Events start at 10.30am. Daniel Ryan, David Ryan, Sean Mockler, Oran Mulhall & Jack Fallon will represent the Club at the National Track & Field Championships on 9th & 10th July in Tullamore & our Boys U/12 4 x 100m Relay team will represent the Club at the National Inter-Club Relays on 24th July in Tullamore.
