Crowds of Music Fans Enjoyed fourth Clancy Brothers Music and Arts Festival
Crowds of music revellers rocked-out in glorious sunshine at the fourth annual Clancy Brothers Music and Arts Festival in Carrick-on-Suir over the weekend.
According of festival Chairperson Ross Clery, “We’ve had a fantastic weekend with visitors from all over Ireland enjoying the festival programme; we are delighted with the turnout and already looking forward to next year.”
The festival commenced on Thursday, June 2 as Mary Clancy wife of the late Paddy Clancy took to the stage at The Brewery Lane Theatre to host the evening concert “from Carnegie to Carrick with the Clancy Brothers” and a ‘Friends of Brewery Lane Variety Concert’.
The Eoghan Power Memorial Singing Competition took place on Thursday evening in Figgerty’s Pub; with the sounds of the Clancy Brothers’ repertoire featuring well into the night.
Paddy Casey and Mundy really did ‘ROCK ON THE SUIR’ at the open air concert on Saturday evening; the young and the not so young danced their socks off with the headline duo and support acts El Hombre Jokes, Chimpanbee and Amber Jean. Paul Brady hosted a rapt audience on Sunday evening at The Strand Theatre taking the house down with his classic hits.
The Art Trail which featured over 100 artists, students and photographers enthralled visitors who trekked from between the nine venues and enjoyed the exclusive exhibition ‘River Suir Inspired’ at Ormond Castle, the trail and exhibition continues through bank holiday Monday.
Hoards of families enjoyed the free family fun and the Children’s Parade which was launched by Cllr Joe Brennan, Chair of South Tipperary Development Company on Saturday afternoon and the River Festival on Sunday. Face Painting, Stilt Walkers, Street Entertainers, Art workshops, Music and Dancing were the firm favourites. Bobby Power’s Carrick Wheelers Challenge Sportive provided a suitable test for cyclists who had travelled from all over Ireland to take part.
