€7 Million travel plaza for Moneygall to bring new jobs to the area
At a press conference in Moneygall, Co. Offaly today Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of Supermacs, announced plans for the development of a €7 million travel plaza in Moneygall.
The travel plaza which will be built on a 12 acre site adjacent to the M7 will comprise a petrol station, Supermacs Restaurant, a Papa John’s Pizza Restaurant, convenience shop and amenity area. There will also be a commemorative plaque marking President Obama’s visit to Moneygall.
The new development will bring more than 50 new jobs to the area along with a further 70 to 80 jobs in the building and development of the site which is expected to open next year. It is hoped that the plaza will become a key stop-over point for motorists travelling through the midlands and will contribute to the local economy by bringing tourists and visitors to the area.
Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of Supermac’s says, “We’re thrilled to be creating a high employment development in the area. We hope to provide much needed employment and an economic boost by attracting visitors to Moneygall, which is already on the map as the birthplace of President Obama’s ancestors.”

The Galway-based franchise currently has 103 outlets across the Republic and Northern Ireland. Supermac’s has plans to open a number of additional restaurants during the coming year.
