County Tipperary Community Games News
The County Finals of the U/14 Quiz took place on Friday last, 4th March in the Presentation School Hall, Thurles. Our thanks to Thurles for hosting this event which attracted over 20 teams of children from all over the county. The winners on the night were Ballingarry who scored 79 points out of a possible 100. 3 teams finished on 76 points & following a tie-breaker the places were decided as follows:- Joint 2nd place St. Mary’s East & Fethard Killusty with Moycarkey Borris in 3rd place. Congratuations & well done to all medal winners & to all the teams who took part on the night. The Ballingarry team now go forward to represent Tipperary at Weekend 1 of the National Finals in May & we wish them well in their endeavors.
The County Finals of the Indoor Soccer took place on Saturday last, 5th March in Templemore. Our thanks to Templemore for hosting the finals which were a great success. The results & the teams who are through to the Munster Finals in UL on Saturday 26th March are:-
Girls U/13 – Nenagh & the team is Kate O’Connor, Niamh Kennedy, Vanessa Tynan, Hazel McAuliffe, Emily Talbot, Elke Bergin, Saoirse McGee & Shauna Rooney.
Girls U/15 – Powerstown beat St Flannan’s 2-0 with the 2 goals scored in the first half by Sarah McDermot & Megan Shanahan. The winning Powerstown team was Everena Everard, Michelle McMeel, Sarah McDermot, Leanne Ryan, Hazel Shanahan, Cliona Collins, Aoife Power & Megan Shanahan.
Boys U/13 – In a nail biting final, Templemore beat Clerihan on penalties. The score at the end of full time was 1-1 with goals scored by Alan O’Donnell (Clerihan) & Enna McBride (Templemore). The same score stood at the end of extra time. To separate the 2 team, the match went to penalties with Templemore winning 1-0 & the winning penalty scored by Enna McBride. It was a very exciting match with nothing between the 2 sides. Well done to both teams, it really is very hard for any team to lose on penalties. The winning Templemore team was Patrick Cadell, Enna McBride, Paul Bergin, Michael Fogarty, Shane Doyle, Andrew Ormond & Ciaran Byrne.
Boys U/15 – Toomevara beat Gortnahoe 2-0 with a goal in each half both scored by Paul Ryan. The winning Toomevara team was Paul Ryan, Jack Delaney, Denis Haverty, Liam Ryan, Daniel Casey, Shane Slevin, John McInerney & Declan Elderfield.
Good luck to all the 4 winning teams who will represent Tipperary in the Munster Finals in UL on Saturday 26th March.
Upcoming events are below:-
Saturday 12th March – County Art & Model Making Finals in the Parish Hall, Silvermines at 12 noon. Please note that all competitors need to bring their own art materials (paper, markers, paints, clay etc) needed to create their pictures & models on the day. Judging will take place & medals will be presented immediately after the competitors are finished. There will be no shop in the Parish Hall so bring your own provisions if required.
Saturday 2nd April – County Projects Final in Dunkerrin Hall. 6pm start for setting up projects followed by judging at 7.30pm.
Saturday 2nd April – County Handwriting Final in Dunkerrin Hall from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Sunday 3rd April – County Cross Country Finals in Thurles Crokes Complex at 2pm.
Saturday 9th April – County Talent Finals in Lattin GAA Centre at 5.30pm. All entries to Joan Hogan, Busherstown, Moneygall by 1st April.
Monday 2nd May – County Gymnastics Finals in Moyle Rovers GAA Complex, Lisronagh. All entries to Martin O’Keefe, Cappauanic, Bansha, Co. Tipperary by 22nd April.
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th May – County Swimming Finals in Clonmel at 3pm. All entries to Tom O’Ceallaigh, 7 Auburn Square, Cashel Road, Clonmel by 22nd April.
Sunday 26th June – County Athletics Finals in Templemore Track. Parade at 11.30am followed by 12 noon start. Closing date for entries to Kathleen England is Friday 3rd June.
