clonoulty-rossmore-vintage-rally-1Clonoulty Rossmore Vintage Club will hold their 10th Annual Vintage Rally in aid of South Tipperary Hospice Movement on the 22nd  August 2010 in Clonoulty Village commencing at 12 o’clock. Last year we raised €20,000.00 bringing our total presented to Hospice to date to €192,000.00. We have also given €20,000 to other charities ie., Boher, Red Cross etc..

Hopefully this years rally will be as big a success in terms of monies raised, fun had and displays as last years. Vintage cars attended ranging in age from the 1920s up to the 1980s. Many tractors were on display with such a wide variety of models to name a few a Allis Chambers also a rare Porsche tractor attended. There was also a delightful mixture of motor bikes. The motor bikes took part in a sponsored 70 mile road run which helped to boost the funds raised.

clonoulty-rossmore-vintage-rally-3Every year there is a portion of the exhibits area dedicated to stationary engines. Danny O’Dwyer RIP Fordson Major powered the Allen Threshing Mill owned by John Leamy from Dualla.

It was like taking a walk down memory lane for the older among us looking at the memorabilia on display. In particular the blacksmiths forge and tools. There was a wide variety of horse and donkey drawn implements on view. Children had great fun playing with the fire blowers and railway cart.

This year we are having a unique display of hay saving methods and tools ranging in sophistication from the Scythe to present day round balers together with the implements used through the ages in tillage/ gardening.

Military enthusiastic were catered for with a varied list of equipment such as a Crusader Recovery Truck, Bedford Green Goddess Fire Tender ex military, Bedford 4t truck and Land Rover 101 forward controls all in working order available for inspection.

Family fun is always guaranteed by the variety of sideshows and activities people can participate in. The most popular are the tractor balancing, steady hand, pegs on the line and match the make to model of car. The bouncing castle and activity center is always another hub of activity.

As a Clonoulty man long exiled … in the lovely Co. Clare … I am really looking forward to visiting your great Rally for the first time next Sunday, and eagerly look forward also, to attending the event there which will commemorate the famous Ballagh Warpipers. My sincere thanks to Fr Paddy Ryan (M) for letting me know that it was taking place. Congratulations to all for your outstanding work on behalf of the Tipperary Hospice Movement.
