Government must act on Medical Card Situation – Delaney

Sinn Fein candidate for the Templemore/Thurles area Joan Delaney has called on the government parties to support a Sinn Féin private members motion in the Dáil this week to reverse the cuts to discretionary medical cards imposed in the HSE 2014 Service Plan.

“The number of people being granted or holding on to discretionary medical cards is falling at an alarming rate. It is imperative that the HSE treats with due respect and compassion all applicants for medical cards, taking fully into account not only incomes but the burdens imposed by medical conditions, illnesses and disabilities.”

“The Sinn Féin team in the Dáil is tabling a private members motion to this effect and I’m calling on the Tipperary government TDs to support the motion. The effect on families that lose these discretionary medical cards is devastating and something must be done to address the hardship it is causing.
