Last Saturday night proved to be a very successful night for St Flannan’s Club at the National Community Games Awards in the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe. We found out a few weeks ago that our Club was to receive the Tipperary Club of the Year for the Third Year in a row  which was great news, the club has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years with the help of a great committee and volunteers that puts so much work into our very busy year, on the night Chairman Willie Jones and his son William received the Award on behalf of the 14 teams and the 90 Individual Competitors from the ages of 8 to 16 that took part in Community Games this year with our Club. The Second award which was announced on the night a “National Volunteer Award” was picked up by our hard working Club Secretary and Ass. County Secretary Joan Hogan for her many years of hard work with her Club and County. For the last 10 years Joan has travelled with Tipperary to the National Finals in Mosney and more recently in Athlone on the May and August Weekends looking after competitors from our own Club and kids from all over Tipperary, Joan also looks after more than 150 Tipperary Tracksuits which is a job in itself getting them out to the clubs all over Tipperary for the Finals and then getting them back and ready for the next finals weekends, Joan also co-ordinates the County Talent competitions every year and recently looks after the County Projects and Handwriting competitions events this award was very much deserved Joan proved to be  a very popular winner, but the Hogan Family were not finished getting awards on the night as her daughter Claire received a “ National Youth Volunteer Award “ Claire got her award for her hard work with her Club, County and at National Level for the last couple of years since she has finished competing Claire helps out at many County Events including the Athletics, Quiz and Talent events and with National Community Games Claire helps out with the Cross Country Recording at the finish at the May National Finals and also records the Shot, Javeline and Discus events at the August National Finals.
