Corrigan Brothers release a new single to celebrate last Friday’s announcement of “The Gathering 2013”- the band whose worldwide hit “There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama” saw them reach seven million you tube hits and chart in over twenty countries-and who President Obama famously mentioned in his Dublin speech saying “If you believe the Corrigan Brothers, there’s no one more Irish than me”
On Friday 7th October the Irish Government announced the biggest tourism initiative ever staged in Ireland. ‘The Gathering’ will be a year-long event in 2013 where people at home and abroad can play a part in the country’s recovery, potentially bringing 325,000 extra visitors and providing a major economic stimulus.
The Gathering will focus on a series of flagship festivals throughout the year, along with special interest spin-off events, and a community-led programme. It will showcase Irish arts, sports, food, learning, genealogy and family heritage, science and hospitality.
Enda’s Gathering – Corrigan Brothers (Decca 2011)
The Taoseach Enda Kenny Said 2013
There’s going to be a gathering
The likes you’ve never seen
They’re comin back
To have the crack
Paddy and paidrigin
To the old sod
Well holy god
For Edna’s gathering
Chouus
From Derry down to Kerry
From Belfast to trallee
You won’t find a hotel room
Or a b and b
They’ll spend the cash
Go on the lash
They’ll play and dance and sing
The crack’s goin’ to be ninety
At Enda’s gathering
They’ll kiss the famous blarney stone
When they do return
And go and see the checkout
Once manned by mary byrne
From Donegal to annascaul
From cobh up to gweedore
We’ll through roll out the welcome mat
And open every door
Chorus
There’ll be courtin in the kitcheb
They’ll be whisky in the jar
Wild rovers comin back
Who left by ass and car
They’ll be welcome in rialto
In ranelagh and ring
When they come back to have the crack
At enda’s gathering
enda will address them
and what he’ll say I guess
is that the dear old emerald isle
is open for business
go out and spend yere euros
yere dollars and yere yen
coz yere not goin home till we paid the loan
back to Chopras men
Chorus
From Derry down to Kerry
From Belfast to trallee
You won’t find a hotel room
Or a b and b
They’ll spend the cash
Go on the lash
They’ll play and dance and sing
The crack’s goin’ to be ninety
At Enda’s gathering
