A Night Of Swing Music And Social Dancing At The Source

Thurles Swing Dance Scene and Swingcopation are gearing up for a night of ‘swingtastic’ dance moves, 30’s glamour and high energy swing with music from the Sam Barker Trio. On Saturday 28th January it will be time to get out your dancing shoes. From the 1930’s gypsy swing of Django Reinhardt and Stépanhe Grappelli to a host of famous dance classics, this infectious sound will get your toes tapping and your body shaking. You’ll be lindy hopping your way home!

A Night Of Swing Music And Social Dancing At The Source

Swingcopation Presents Swing Night At the Source

The seats are coming out and The Source Arts Centre auditorium will be transformed for a night of nostalgia. If you don’t feel like dancing, just sit back and take in all the 30’s glamour as the Sam Barker Trio take you back in time to ballroom and bygone days. The social event will be attended by swing dance groups from Cork city, Lismore, Kilkenny and further afield for a Swingcopation and Sam Barker Trio debut at The Source.

Thurles Swing Dance Scene group have been meeting every Monday night since October in The Source Arts Centre community space. For those of you who may not be familiar with it, Swing is a wide family of dances incorporating many related (though sometimes only loosely) dances from Lindy Hop to East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing to Boogie Woogie, Balboa to Shag, and from Rock ‘n’ Roll to Jive. The group welcomes people of all ages to dip their toes into the dance scene that is enjoying a huge revival up and down the country as well as across Europe and beyond.

Swing dancing is fantastic for people of all ages and abilities to get involved: an opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends, a chance to learn something new and have great fun doing it! Little wonder it’s shown to have a very positive effect on your mental well-being.

Thurles Swing Dance Scene classes will resume in the New Year on Monday 23rd January at 7pm in The Source Arts Centre community space. The group welcomes new people to come along and try a bit of Lindy Hop, meet new people and have a lot of ‘craic’ doing it! No experience or commitment necessary, it is a drop in class. €10 per class/€5 for students
