Roscrea’s Nicole Drought Nominated For Irish Sportswoman of The Year

Roscrea’s Nicole Drought, 22, has been nominated for Sportswoman of the Year 2016. The University of Limerick student was also recently honoured by Tipperary County Council, who presented her with a Civic Award in recognition of her achievements on the track.

Having raced and won in the Irish Touring Car Championship in 2016, Nicole also made her sportscar debut, racing a Global GT Light at Anglesey in Wales. Despite being new to both the car and the track, she qualified second and finished fourth, just missing a podium fiby a tenth of a second.

For 2017, Nicole will contest the entire Global GT Light series in the UK, as well as selected Irish races. She has also been invited to France to test a Super Serie Mitjet car and is in negotiations to possibly compete in a round of their 2017 series too.

Nicole Drought, 22, is a native of Roscrea in Tipperary. A former All Ireland winning Camogie Captain, she made her motor racing debut in 2015, driving a 250bhp Honda Integra in the Irish Touring Car Championship. In 2016, she became the first Irish Ambassador for the Sean Edwards Foundation and accepted their invitation to travel to Le Castellet in France to test a GT3 Porsche 911. Also in 2016, became a member of the Murphy Prototypes Young Driver programme and attended an ELMS race in France with the Irish based European sportscar team.
