Far From the Madding Crowd- Thomas Hardy’s classic romance is brought to life at The Source

Hotbuckle Theatre take classic novels and try to tell the tales with humour and emotion, making them accessible for everyone.

“I shall do one thing in this life – one thing certain – that is, love you, and long for you, and keep wanting you till I die.” Adapted from Thomas Hardy’s classic novel – spirited, independent Bathsheba Everdene must choose between her three suitors. Will she choose to marry for passion, for obligation or for true love and companionship? Hardy’s romance is brought to life in Hotbuckle’s trademark ensemble style.

Far from the Madding Crowd is perhaps one of the most endearing and English of Hardy’s novels. It tells the story of the young farmer Gabriel Oak and his love for and pursuit of the elusive and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene. Her wayward nature however, leads her into the path of the dashing Sergeant Troy ‘…the past was yesterday; never, the day after’ and the introverted and reclusive gentleman farmer, Mr Boldwood, whose love for her fills him with ‘…a fearful sense of exposure’ culminating almost inevitably in both tragedy and true love.

Adrian Preater  formed Hotbuckle Theatre in 2006 with his wife, Gemma Aston. He has since written, adapted and directed all of Hotbuckle’s shows to date as well as performing in them. Adrian trained at Bretton Hall and the Central School of Speech and Drama before appearing in such films as ‘Gosford Park’, ‘Love Actually’, Branagh’s ‘Magic Flute’ and ‘Enigma’. Adrian has worked with many and varied theatre companies including Major Road, Oddsocks, London Bubble, and Richmond’s Orange Tree.
