German version of ‘Come Dine With Me’ films in Kilcoran, Cahir

The German version of the popular reality TV show Come Dine With Me is filming in Kilcoran, Cahir, this evening. Called Das perfekte Dinner (meaning ‘The Perfect Dinner’), five amateur German chefs are taking part in an ‘Ireland special’, which is airing to almost 1.4 million viewers at primetime every evening this week on VOX (German nationwide TV channel). Filming for the episode in Kilcoran takes place later today (8 September).

Recruitment for the amateur chefs took place in June, with assistance from Tourism Ireland.  Over five nights this week, the contestants are attempting to ‘out-host’ one another, in a test of both their culinary and their party-hosting prowess. As well as featuring the contestants preparing and hosting their dinner party, viewers will also see footage of Cahir, Kildare, Wicklow, West Cork.

Contestants taking part in the German version of ‘Come Dine With Me’ include (l-r) Folke Rohrssen, Tanja McCarthy, Ali Mitter, Susanne Durr and Melanie Unliy.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Central Europe, said: “Das perfekte Dinner is really popular in Germany – so this is a fun and different way to showcase Cahir and Ireland to a huge audience of potential German visitors. TV and film are recognised as strong influencers on holidaymakers and Tourism Ireland regularly works with TV and production companies around the world, to facilitate the making of travel and lifestyle programmes and films in Ireland. It’s a really effective way for us to get positive exposure for the destination.

“Germany is an important market for tourism to the island of Ireland and we have seen good growth in German visitor numbers again this year, with CSO figures for the first half of 2016 showing a +5% increase. We will continue to roll out an extensive programme of promotions in Germany this autumn, to keep the momentum going and boost business in the shoulder and off-peak season.”
