My IDA meeting regarding Suir Pharma will leave no option unexplored – McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath is set to meet today with representatives of IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland to discuss follow up action and the wider issue of job creation in the county following the shock closure of Suir Pharma Ireland Ltd in Clonmel. Deputy McGrath was speaking ahead of the meeting which is due to take place at 4pm:

“This meeting will be a valuable opportunity to convey to the IDA and Enterprise Ireland the significance of the job losses that have occurred recently in Tipperary.

I have invited Councillor Andy Moloney to attend with me and who as a former employee of Suir Pharma will be well aware of the impact the closure has had on the town.

There are long standing issues here surrounding regional development and the imbalances which persist around inward investment in counties like Tipperary.

We will be seeking to have all these matters thoroughly examined with an eye to obtaining firm commitments around the role of both organisations and indeed the Department of Jobs in bringing long terms sustainable employment to the county.

Tipperary has suffered several setbacks in the last year in terms of job losses; a trend that must at the very least be halted if it cannot be reversed in the short to medium term,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
