Volunteer Centre to go County Wide

South Tipperary Volunteer Centre received confirmation in recent days that following a successful submission to the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government it is being resourced to expand to cover the whole county and become Tipperary Volunteer Centre.

Speaking today, Emily Harrington, Manager of South Tipperary Volunteer Centre, said: “This is great news for communities and community groups across Tipperary. Up to now there has been a lack of Volunteer Centre coverage in North Tipperary and the commitment of Minister Alan Kelly’s Department to ensuring coverage of the whole county by the Volunteer Centre is a welcome development”.

South Tipperary Volunteer Centre is one of 21 Volunteer Centres nationwide affiliated with Volunteer Ireland. The Volunteer Centre works with community groups, organisations and individuals to promote, enable and support volunteering. It offers a volunteer placement service alongside a Garda Vetting service and an advice/training service for organisations in involving and managing volunteers.

“A working group comprised of representatives from South Tipperary Volunteer Centre, Tipperary County Council and North Tipperary LEADER Partnership was established last year and, with input from other local stakeholders, put together a proposal to expand the Volunteer Centre into North Tipperary. Expanding the remit of the Volunteer Centre is the outcome we were all hoping for and is as a direct result of the commitment across the county to supporting volunteering in Tipperary”

South Tipperary Volunteer Centre will shortly begin recruiting for a new post associated with the service expansion. For more information on the Volunteer Centre and the services it offers visit www.volunteersouthtipp.ie or contact the team on 052 7443407.
