Nominees Sought For Tipperary Garda Youth Achievement Awards

Tipperary Gardaí launched Tipperary Garda Youth Award in association with Supermac’s.  Nominees are sought for the Awards which will highlight the positive contributions young people make in their communities throughout the County.  This is the first year of the Awards in Tipperary which were launched by Assistant Commissioner Nolan & Chief Superintendent Kehoe at the Barack Obama Plaza, Junction 23, Moneygall.

Tipperary Garda Youth Achievement Awards 2015 celebrate and acknowledge young people between the ages of 13 and 19 and recognise the positive contribution young people are making in their communities in the county.  Gardaí continue to work in partnership to create safer communities for all.

Awards will be considered for nominated young people who, through their actions and activities, make their communities a better place to live in, or who have shown great determination in their own lives. A Judging panel will adjudicate and decide the recipients.

The members of the Judging panel for the include Ms Una Foden, (singer-songwriter, television presenter), Mr Brendan Cummins (former Tipperary Hurler) , Mr Gerard O’Brien, (Circuit Court Judge),  & Mr Henry Healy (Barack Obama & Tipperary Town Plazas).

Speaking at the launch Inspector Edmund Golden, Coordinator of the awards said “I am delighted to be Coordinator for the Tipperary Garda Youth Achievement Awards.  These awards will recognise the unsung heroes who I believe are the young people of Tipperary making a difference within their local communities. These youth awards are an opportunity for An Garda Siochana to acknowledge these young people and continue to encourage young people to get involved at all levels in their local communities.  I hope that everyone who knows a young person or group who are making a difference will take the time to nominate them for these awards.”

Henry Healy of the Barack Obama and Tipperary Town Plazas said “Supermac’s are delighted to support the Tipperary Garda Youth Achievement Awards.  We come into contact with thousands of young people on a daily basis in Supermac’s outlets and see many examples of social awareness and considerate behaviour among them.  Supermac’s appreciates the opportunity to work closely with the Gardai on such a constructive and vital project which promotes pride and awareness among young people.”

The application form is available to download from www.garda.ie and from www.supermacs.ie.  Application forms are also available from Garda Stations in Thurles, Nenagh, Clonmel, Cahir and Tipperary.  Completed application forms can be emailed to tipperarygardayouthawards@gmail.comDeadline for receipt of applications is Friday, 4th March 2016 at 12ammidnight.

The Judging panel will adjudicate on the applications and determine the final award winners who will be notified in writing by the Chairperson on or before the 1st of April 2016.  Tipperary Garda Youth Achievement Awards in association with Supermac’s awards ceremony will take place at the Garda College, Templemore in April 2016
